Seems like a rather cynical view. Mind you, I'm not suggesting that Anthropic is angelic, only that here their interests are probably more aligned with other major tech companies. There's money to be made in providing security, not just in exploiting it. There would be reputation risk and legal risk otherwise.

I can't help it. I've seen what AI companies and Big Tech have done with the power they have. So have you. So has Darat. Am I to suddenly believe that they are going to start using this tech ethically, because reasons? No. They're absolutely not going to start doing that. Why would they?
 
They really have got the cause and effect arse over tit, no the phrase "AI slop" is not what the companies came up with, it's what popular culture came up with to describe crap AI output that is being fostered on us by the companies.

I just saw a commercial with a card at the end saying "THIS COMMERCIAL WAS CREATED USING AI" in large letters. I don't know if they were trying go "meta" (I think so), but I have the feeling it will have been one of the very few commercials to state so. Unless they're forced to put it in small, quick print that nobody can read, like in the car ads.

Running a lucrative black hat hacking operation is a business much like any other. I've seen no indication that Anthropic is, or intends to be, in that business.

You think they have a secret department that's penetrating computer systems, setting up botnets, stealing and trading in stolen data, etc. I don't doubt that there are such businesses out there. I do think it's insane to believe that Anthropic is one of those businesses, in addition to being in the AI business.
 
Sam Harris had Tristan Harris ('The Social Dilemma' and now 'AI Doc') on his show and released the full two hours (instead of the usual snippets)

Luckily Tristan does most of the talking, so even if you can't stand Sam, give this a try. Lots of good points made here.
And interestingly China seems more concerned about guard rails for AI then the U.S. (or its tech-bros). Surely China would like to win the arms race as well, but China is in it for the power, while the tech-bros are in it for the money (and the fame and power). And some of them seem to be fine with AI becoming humanities end, as long as the AI carries their brand, their DNA then forever. Like 'If someone gets to end humanity, at least it was me'.
