Cont: The Russian Invasion of Ukraine part 9

he doesn't have to - all positions of power and influence are occupied by his cronies, and it will take a 2/3 majority plus years of time to oust them all -and Orban can force another election before then.

More civilians murdered by Russian attacks on Kherson today, during Putin's supposed "Easter ceasefire".
◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ terrorist ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊!!!! That whole ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ country can ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ rot in hell.
Personally, like with elsewhere, I have no particular desire for any whole country to rot in hell. Blatantly murderous leaders and their supporters, on the other hand, I'm entirely fine with condemning.

That's the pure evil of Putin. FPV Drone operators sitting safely across a river hidden away stalking civilians walking around. They see every civilian they are about to murder. They don't even have the anonymizing distancing of a missile targeting person or pilot dropping a bomb. They see the individual human. This is the man Trump respects.

...This is just a little off, but not wrong in and of itself. As cases like this one and this one demonstrate, Trump and co have been aiding, abetting, and trying to normalize war crimes even before Hegseth. What worse is that the Republican Party that he leads rallies around and works to protect those who torture and murder innocent civilians who belong to groups that they disfavor and have happily turned murderers into spokesmen and minor celebrities for their side. In short, pointing at Trump respecting Putin undersells the issues at hand rather massively, which is why it's a little off.

Seriously, this is the kind of person that Republicans made a celebrity.

Gallagher was convicted in July of posing with the dead body of a teenage Islamic State captive he had just killed with a hunting knife. He was granted clemency by the president in November in a decision that angered military chiefs.

In the interviews, conducted by navy investigators looking into Gallagher’s conduct during a tour of duty in Iraq in 2017, fellow platoon members told of a ruthless leader who stabbed the captive to death for no reason then forced his troops to pose for a photograph with the corpse.

At his court martial, Gallagher was acquitted of murder but demoted in rank for the lesser charge of posing with the body – a decision Trump reversed.

In a lengthy criminal investigation report, the navy detectives laid out other allegations against Gallagher, including shooting a schoolgirl and elderly man from a sniper’s roost. Members of Alpha Platoon’s Seal Team 7 alarmed by their leader’s conduct said they were initially shut down by military chiefs when they first spoke up, and told their own careers would suffer if they continued to talk about it.

Eventually, the Navy Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) began an inquiry and the platoon members were called to give evidence.

“The guy is freaking evil,” special operator first class Craig Miller, one of the platoon’s most experienced members, told investigators in sometimes tearful testimony. “I think Eddie was proud of it, and that was, like, part of it for him.”

It just may. Perhaps the invasion of Ukraine will lead to the third collapse in a hundred years for russia (the first two of course being the fall of the tsar and then of the USSR). Wagner's coup attempt gives me some hope.

Russia isn't a country. It's an empire. One that didn't fully collapse in 1989 or 1991

Well, it's kind of like the US - a large majority of US voters either elected him or didn't care enough to vote. Even more are like that in Russia.
My social media right now is FULL of Russians complaining about their Government.
Are they complaining about their Government murdering children? Wipinig cities of the map? Committing genocide?
No, they're complaining about not being able to access TikTok and Instagram. They're whining about airports being closed (due to Ukrainian drones) so they can't fly to Europe for vacations, and wailing against the Ukrainians "why are they doing this?". Some of the morons are literally demanding Russia do something to shut down Ukrainian airports in retaliliation! They've been closed since February 2022.

And here's the thing. These people are whining on social media they're not supposed to be using via VPNs that are illegal to use, and actually complaining about their Government! So they have access to all the news in the West and in Ukraine. And they don't care.

◊◊◊◊ them. They can burn in hell too.

I saw a video a while ago (I'll try to find it again) where a Russian lady (not living in Russia) tries to explain why Russians are like that. Her theory is that for a century plus now Russians have been abused by their governments so the population acts, collectively, like domestic abuse victims. They keep their heads down, they don't speak up, they don't contradict obvious lies, they don't fight back. Not sure how valid that theory is, but it did make me think.

I think if Russians treat their government like a domestic abuser, Americans treat their own government like retail management. We complain when things aren't to our liking but feel like there's nothing we can actually do about it except demand someone get fired, which doesn't happen often. And when so many things are wrong we give up because we're exhausted by complaining all the time with no meaningful results.
