Ed Israel/US Attacks Iran /Yet Another Country/Iran

JD Vance: "I think this comes from a legitimate misunderstanding. I think the Iranians thought the ceasefire included Lebanon, and it just didn't. We never made that promise, we never indicated that was gonna be the case."

Therefore, our next genocidal threat will be reduced to the level of "release a hound."

I think maybe this is a legitimate misunderstanding. Trump thought he could say he cancelled Operation Genocide because he had a ceasefire, but Israel decided he hasn't got one.

Death to America
The slogan has historically been contextualized as a reaction to the U.S. government's policies towards Islamic countries and merely an expression of outrage at those policies, not a wish for literal death for American people themselves. In a speech to university students, Iran's then-supreme leader Ali Khamenei interpreted the slogan as "death to the U.S.'s policies, death to arrogance".
You see the difference? Trump said "A whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again". There is no wiggle room here, he was threatening immediate genocide via military force, even worse than his previous threat to bomb Iran into the stone age. And he has the means to do it, which Iran never had and never will have (even if they acquire nuclear weapons).

One country in the world has enough nuclear bombs to obliterate Iran 10 times over, and that country's president is known for breaking all the norms with impunity. We cannot assume it was just an expression of outrage. Your position on this is shocking. It goes beyond merely being Deplorable to pure evil. But the worse thing is you aren't alone. 28% of Americans still support Trump in the war with Iran despite his insane threats. Are you proud to be part of that shrinking minority?

Hey, it's your side's standard, not mine.
My apologies for being on the 'side' of humanity.

Anyone think TACO TACO-ed in fear of the 25th?
No, I think he just followed his usual MO with the usual result.

First threaten your opponent with outrageous conditions to a deal, e.g., 110% tariffs.
Second, stall for time when your opponent stands up to your bullying.
Third, capitulate embarrassingly with, if you’re lucky, an agreement to carry on as before ore, more usually, rolling over and giving your opponent more concessions than before your first threats.
Fourth, claim that you won bigly.
Fifth, you cultish followers rave about how great you are (with tears in their eyes, of course).

Indeed I do. You make excuses for one but not the other.

No, that's not the difference. The difference is between empty threats, and threats the threatener has the capability (and the will) to carry out. Circumstances can make the former excusable, or at least understandable. The latter is a different thing entirely.

There is also the minor difference that the US has been actively disrupting the lives of Iranians since the 1940's, most of the time for the worse. which tends to build resentment.
On the other hand Iran has not actually harmed the US in any meaningful way ever.

Kind of like how the DHS will be of two minds about what to do with you if they read your post.
Yeah, I won't be going anywhere near that ◊◊◊◊ hole country for some years.

So not the flex/threat you think that is...
@jt512 has given you an outstanding example of American exceptionalism: The United States is the only country in the world where the threat of DHS thuggery is a genuine threat.

I have to admit that a few other countries are exceptional in much the same way, but spell DHS differently.

That is demented rubbish. Quite to the contrary, the US is the only country in the world that has a First Amendment that protects vague threats of assassination of government leaders. Doesn't mean people making such threats won't be investigated. But they won't be arrested unless they turn out to be genuine, imminent threats. Far cry from, say, Germany, where a citizen protesting that the interior minister was authoritarian was then arrested under orders from the interior minister. Or the UK, where citizens are getting arrested for mean tweets.

Iran begged!

Hegseth: Iran has been a threat to the United States and the free world for 47 years… No longer—not on our watch. President Trump made history. Iran begged for this ceasefire, and we all know it. They’ve had enough. Operation Epic Fury was a capital V military victory

The only equivalence I can think of to Kegsbreath's simpering posturing was if Hirohito surrendered with the following speach:

"My loyal subjects, the Allies came begging me to offer unconditional surrender. Big burly men came to me with tears in their eyes saying, we can't take this any more; all the Japanese civilians we are killing, all the Japanese ships we are sinking, all the cities we are destroying, all the soldiers committing suicide with their last bullets, it's too much. Your soldiers are too bigly for us and we can't go on.

My people, as we are now bored with all our winning and have achieved our goals I declare total victory and surrender to General Douglas McArthur.

Thank you for your attention to this matter."

No, the outright refusal was completely the correct decision.

In fact the rest of Europe should have gone further and denide their airspace to US aircraft.
Yup. Let's imagine they did send token support. It would still be claimed to not be enough. And would be claimed that the other governmentd supported the actions of the US.

Looking forward the next conquest

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
All U.S. Ships, Aircraft, and Military Personnel, with additional Ammunition, Weaponry, and anything else that is appropriate and necessary for the lethal prosecution and destruction of an already substantially degraded Enemy, will remain in place in, and around, Iran, until such time as the REAL AGREEMENT reached is fully complied with. If for any reason it is not, which is highly unlikely, then the "Shootin' Starts," bigger, and better, and stronger than anyone has ever seen before. It was agreed, a long time ago, and despite all of the fake rhetoric to the contrary - NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS and, the Strait of Hormuz WILL BE OPEN & SAFE. In the meantime our great Military is Loading Up and Resting, looking forward, actually, to its next Conquest.

AMERICA IS BACK!

The next conquest?

Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump
NATO WASN'T THERE WHEN WE NEEDED THEM, AND THEY WON'T BE THERE IF WE NEED THEM AGAIN. REMEMBER GREENLAND, THAT BIG, POORLY RUN, PIECE OF ICE!!! President DJT

"Needed them". Make your mind up.

The other NATO members are not so dumb that this kind of taunting will make them scramble to get back into Donald's good books. There's nothing in it for them if they do. He had no idea NATO allies fought and died alongside the US after 9/11. He's just not capable of remembering a debt owed.
