Cont: Musk, SpaceX and future of Tesla II

Ford has a low P/E ratio because their potential is low. People investing in Tesla are betting on a repeat of the huge gains they would have made if they did so in 2019 when Tesla introduced the Model Y. Ford is pulling back from EVs, Tesla is going full steam ahead. Perhaps Ford will be like the proverbial Tortoise and win the race in the end, but right now that's looking pretty unlikely.

Tesla keeps pouring funds into ground-breaking R&D that is paying off and laying the foundation for the future. Ford thinks they can compete by concentrating on gas trucks and hoping their 'skunk works' will pull a rabbit out of the hat when the time comes. Toyota is playing a similar game, but their recently outgoing CEO admitted that this hasn't been working. Sales are dropping and they don't have the expertize to create compelling EVs.

Legacy automakers are fossils. They got where they are today with slow incremental changes optimized for a technology which is going the way of the dinosaur. They can't transition to EVs because it eats into gas car sales so they can't ramp up production enough to get the required economy of scale. The real answer is to 'cold turkey', but they can't do that without taking an enormous hit that their owners won't accept. They are Kodak. Ford's stock is overvalued. I will keep my money in the bank where it's safe and helping others.
I don't blame you for not buying Ford. But that doesn't mean that Tesla is any less overvalued.

Tesla is pouring money into technologies that aren't paying diddly squat. Other than to Musk. Every bet is on some future miracle happening. That it will justify a grotesque valuation. The Boring company is a joke. So is Tesla Solar. Robocab can barely get off the ground. They are throwing big money into the crowded AI field. Might as well be buying lottery tickets. Musk is a carnival barker pumping stock and creating little in the way in actual earnings. Tesla WAS a stock that was once worth buying. But it paid those investors. Now you have a bunch of suckers paying far too much. Praying that lightning will strike in the same place.

AI is essential for autonomous vehicles and robots.
Not the "AI" of large language models.

Whether Tesla can get their robots working well enough to be marketable is questionable, but the autonomous vehicle market is here and growing.
Well some companies have autonomous taxis (not Tesla). But even they are not truly autonomous. Waymo have remote operators back at base ready to step in if one of their cars gets stuck.

SpaceX is also in a good position to put AI in space, Whether this will get anywhere is also 'up in the air' but has significant benefits over ground based installations. Is this a gamble? Sure, but so is all innovation.
If you are talking about AI data centres in space, it is pure moonshine. Putting your data centres on Earth has vast advantages over putting them in space.

AI as a component of space exploration is another matter but still not large language models.

Tesla is one of the few companies using AI in practical applications that need it.
Every car company is trying to make better driving aids. Tesla is not one of a few.

Musk isn't just doing it for fun, he needs as much compute power as possible to perfect his products. Other AI compnaies are just playing around with toys and expecting us to pay for them.
xAI is just playing around with toys and expecting us to pay for them. That's partly what the IPO of its parent company is all about.

They will go the same way that pets.com did in the 90s. This is normal in the development of a new technology. After the bubble bursts the tech will continue to improve, and companies who are getting real value out of it will thrive.
Fortunately for xAI, it is part of a larger company and so will probably survive - if it doesn't bring down SpaceX with it. It's not surprising in this ◊◊◊◊◊◊ timeline that the AI company that generates all the CSAM is the one best placed to survive the bubble bursting.

No they aren't. Nothing they are doing now is breaking new ground. They've made a robot which is not as good as robots made by other companies. They have semi-autonomous taxis which are not as good as those of other companies. Meanwhile, in the car business which is where almost all their revenue comes from, they have done nothing for years. Well, they did Cybertruck, but that wasn't the success they were hoping for.

Ford thinks they can compete by concentrating on gas trucks
How is Cybertruck doing?

Lol. They already have.

their first robot was a guy in a suit, then it was a remote controlled one that dumped popcorn all over the floor and fell over when the guy took off his headset

Tesla self-driving saves a lot of lives – the statistics are unequivocal.

That doesn’t mean it’s perfect, of course.

Even when we improve safety 10X, saving 90% of the million lives lost in auto accidents every year, Tesla will still get sued for the 10% who did die. The 90% who are still alive mostly won’t even know that Tesla saved them.

Nonetheless, it is the right thing to do.

So he will be sharing all that data, I mean if it makes people safer surely he wants everyone to experience that increased safety….

The @BoringCompany could build a Hyperloop tunnel from downtown SF to downtown LA for <5% of this cost and it would be a technological marvel exceeding any high speed rail on Earth

If you gave away $126 billion to subsidize free flights between LA and San Francisco at current demand levels, you could fund roughly 150 to 200 years of travel before the money runs out. x.com/KTLA/status/20…

it’s funny when he says stuff like that. that’s less than he spent on twitter, so go ahead and build this technology marvel. that’s nothing to him. he won’t tho

Yeah, yeah, just like he could repair the Baltimore bridge in a month by straightening out all the steel and reusing it. Aside from largely failed and non-functional test tracks, the only thing The Boring Company has actually done is reinvent the subway in Las Vegas—badly, expensively, and ostentatiously. For $12 you can be carried along for a mile at a snail's pace in a human-driven Tesla through a tube lit up with cheap party lighting. I'm no longer moved by Elon Musk's vacuous handwaving.

Pfff. I could do it for less than 1%.
