I was watching one of the Final Destination movies last night. FD3, FWIW.
Very enjoyable but, of course, once you have watched one in the series you pretty much know what is going to happen in all the subsequent ones.
Seeing Trump attack Iran seems very much the same. The feeling that the same things are going to play out in this "movie" as they have in several other Middle Eastern wars, or indeed, as in Vietnam. On the battlefield, the US military can of course destroy the conventional military of their opponents, but the asymmetric aspect and the attempt to control the fallout just leads to a huge mess.
I don't even know if that is the problem. What if Trump says, "okay, we're done. Iran is defeated!" and attempts to back down?
What if Iran keeps the Strait of Hormuz closed, or at least makes it so perilous to cross that it amounts to the same thing?
The problem then is in order to reopen it without forcing it open, then the US will have to go to the negotiating table and find out what Iran wants in order to reopen it. That would be the humiliation.
