So, AIPAC and AI companies won the Illinois primaries. Not just by dumping ungodly amounts of money on the candidates they own, but also by dumping money on candidates on the left to syphon votes away from the leading progressive candidates. And in at least 2 races, it looks like that made the difference. In IL-8 and 9, the lead progressives lost by about half what the second place progressive pulled. At least in IL-9, AIPAC's preferred candidate came in third, but their backup won. Candidates in both races won with less than 1/3 of the vote.

This is why the corporate interests are afraid of ranked choice voting.

We are talking Maine here, not New York City.

Great, you can talk about anywhere at all but that doesn't mean much. Trump is so deeply unpopular and so deeply hated by the bulk of the population I would push every single progressive candidate that can make it past the primary. Get as many progs in office, let their policies start getting through and let people see the changes that happen. It's the same thing that's happening on the right. The MAGAs took over, they implemented a bunch of dumb ◊◊◊◊, and now they're going to get absolutely wrecked in the midterms. At the very least we should give the progressive wing the same opportunity.
No, that's not true. Fetterman ran as a progressive and endorsed Bernie Sanders in 2016. For that matter, the much-maligned Krysten Sinema also came of the progressive wing--she started out as a Green Party member.

As was mentioned before me that goes to show progressives can win, especially when following Trump in office.

Fetterman is currently being a dip ◊◊◊◊ as publicly and frequently as possible, and Sinema is balls deep in a lawsuit cause she couldn't stop banging her security guard. Neither are great representatives but I don't that either drafted or endorsed much policy.

Wow, now AIPAC is talking ◊◊◊◊ on social media about defeating "anti-Israel candidates". Keep in mind, none of the candidates they targeted made Israel central to their campaigns. They were openly critical about the atrocities in Gaza, but it wasn't their central issue. And AIPAC did everything they could to conceal their involvement in these races. They used shell organizations, dark money, dropping cash on everyone but the candidates they feared the most, and just general rat****ery from the shadows.

If I were a candidate who won by these means, I would need to think long and hard about what I'm running for. But, that requires the sort of principles and self reflection that is antithetical to centrism.

If Trump gets the US involved in a land war, where the casualties will skyrocket, the GOP can kiss the mideterms goodbye, SAVE act of no Save act.

Yeah, well, be careful what you wish for I guess:

A U.S. official confirmed that three more warships and roughly 2,500 more Marines are bound for the Middle East, where the U.S. military says it has about 50,000 troops. The Pentagon’s request for another $200 billion to fund the war would need congressional approval as the U.S. national debt hits a record $39 trillion.

Almost every time I hear the name Nixon, it always makes me laugh, because the first image I have is him standing there like the greatest caricature of all time, shaking his head in that special way, jowls shaking while raising his hands over his head, displaying two peace signs, and saying, "I am not a crook!"

I have a feeling the fat clown will become the same kind of demented, laughing-stock caricature like Nixon, except it'll be a long time before that becomes really funny like Nixon.

Of course, that's just my opinion, but one thing I will give Nixon credit for, he sort of did have a sense of humor, displayed by his cameo on Laugh-In asking, "Sock it to me?"

That's the second image that always comes to my mind.

Maybe the fat clown could make a cameo on SNL... Yeah, that'll probably never happen. He's too much of a coward to do it.

He's already done SNL, I doubt they'd want him back the twin factors of being barely able to read and having no decernable sense of humour made working with him a difficult and unpleasant experience for the cast.

Democrats FLIPPED a state House seat in Palm Beach that Trump won by 11 points in 2024.

Mar-a-Lago will now be represented by Emily Gregory, a strong Democratic voice.

We will crush House Republicans in November if DeSantis tries to gerrymander the Florida congressional map.

At this point the Republicans are putting out more deck chairs on the Titanic.

Shut up, AIPAC Shakur. the only thing Democrats will crush with him as leader is any chance at real change to prevent the next Trump. we all get excited about any momentum the Democrats build and then him or Schumer gotta jam their faces in front of a camera to remind us how ◊◊◊◊◊◊ we are.

Taking a quick look at what it would take to flip the Senate. The Democrats need to turn four red seats to blue, while avoiding losing any of their existing seats. The consensus seems to be that the four most likely to turn are Maine, North Carolina, Ohio and Alaska:

Maine: Susan Collins was first elected 30 years ago, and has won four times since then, although 2020 saw her lowest margin of victory (8%) since 1996. Polling pretty consistently shows her likely opponent, Graham Platner, beating her like a drum (the RCP average shows him winning by 7.2%), although it should be pointed out that Platner is a newcomer and relatively unvetted. Still this one looks likely D.

North Carolina. Thom Tillis is retiring, so this is an open seat. Polls show Democrat Roy Cooper well ahead of Michael Whatley, with the RCP average at 8.5%. Likely D.

Ohio. Former senator Sherrod Brown lost his seat in 2024 and is running for VP Vance's old spot. His Republican opponent, John Husted, was appointed to the seat, so he has some advantages, and has experience running statewide (like Brown). The RCP average on this one favors the Republican by 1.4%, but given that Trump won Ohio by 11% in 2024, it's obvious that support for the GOP is slipping. This one's a tossup.

Alaska. Former congresswoman Mary Peltola is running for the Democrats against sitting senator Dan Sullivan. Sullivan has the advantage of incumbency and Alaska went for Trump by 13%. Peltola has run statewide (there's only the one congressional seat in Alaska) and in the few polls I have found she's ahead about 2%. So more slippage, but still a tossup.

The Republicans best chance to flip a Democratic seat would seem to be in Georgia. Jon Ossoff is the only Democrat in the Senate up for reelection in a state Trump won (albeit by only about 2%). Mike Collins, currently in the House, is the likely challenger and has never run a statewide campaign. The RCP average of polling shows Ossoff leading by 2.8%. Tossup.

Texas offers another possible pickup by the Democrats, if one of the above races goes against them. The GOP still hasn't settled on a candidate but so far the RCP average has either Republican winning by 1-2% over James Talarico. Talarico is a sitting member of the Texas House of Representatives and so does not have experience running statewide. His potential opponents are sitting senator John Cornyn or sitting Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Clearly another tossup.

Conclusion? The Democrats have a decent chance to take back the Senate if the stars align. Of course, if this is a wave election, they might win all five Republicans seats and keep Ossoff. That would give them 50 seats to the Republicans 48, with two seats (Sanders and King) held by independents who caucus with the Democrats.

Doesn't matter. The Rs already have no chance of winning an honest election. So they will cheat.
They might try. But I doubt they can cheat at that level.
But the, you seem to get great joy out of your Cassandra act.
And this is exactly the problem, too many people willing to let the Republicans control the White House because the Democrats can't reach some arbitrary standard of perfection.

The obvious answer for them will be "We have to be more crazy, racist, and psychotic."
That is more or less the tone of some erstwhile ardent Trumpies here who now have to wade through a lot of denial to admit they made a mistake. "It was all the Dem's fault not being right-wing and bigoted enough forcing us to vote for the orange ◊◊◊◊ bag."

you hope they can't cheat at that level. they've been laying groundwork for years to do so, and attempted to steal the 2020 presidential election, and nearly succeeded. so you've placed a lot of faith in a system they've been systematically breaking down for years. which isn't a great place to be imo

I agree. They haven't even tried to hide their motivations and tactics to cheat this election. The orange person is demanding the SAVE act to be passed, which would disenfranchise millions. They've said that they will deploy ICE to keep people from voting. Don't worry, they'll only keep "illegals" from voting (wink). They've captured/recruited several election officials in swing states. They seized voter information in states that allowed them to. They are/have purged voters from registration. Trump has bragged about getting help from Musk with voting machines.

Trump started a war, which he may use as excuse to cancel elections. People say that he'd never do that, or that he can't. However, legality and normality plays no part in what he does or gets away with. So it is a definite possibility.

Also, the way The Regime is governing the nation, it is as if they don't care about elections. They seem to believe that the elections won't matter.

All of their cheating is difficult to over come. I hope the nation can do so, but it's a tough hill to climb.
