Ed Israel/US Attacks Iran /Yet Another Country/Iran

It was a deliberate decision because the US made commitments and assured nations that our bloated military would protect them.
We are liars.
The USA are the baddies.
We now are a shameful lying fascist regime ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ over our allies.

That may, just possibly, have given us a clue about how our allies view us, being that we are a bunch of fascist lying scum
It must be sad at times to hate your own country as much as you seem to do.

Ah, the old "why do you hate America" tripe.

I meant to type "trope" but that works.
How would you characterize someone's feelings towards America when they say, "The USA are the baddies."? Is it not a reasonable inference that they hate America? What is a reasonable inference from that statement?

polymarket got some unusual bets on a ceasefire. almost certainly insider trading, but even still fairly risky betting on something like that.

I've yet to see evidence, but there's a claim on Bluesky that someone took $1.5B on the Dow going up 5 minutes before Trump's announcement.

It wouldn't surprise me.

That America is the bad guy?

Your repeated use of "hate" seems to be pure projection.

You are not being a good friend if you don't tell your pal that what he is doing is dangerous and will cause him and others harm.
It's cheerleading, not support to never criticize harmful behavior.

I think people don't realize the damage done to the US in this war already: the Gerald Ford, jewel of the US Navy and symbol of 21st century US naval dominance will be out of commission for years - entirely because Trump ordered it to stay on mission long after maintenance was overdue and problems were accumulating.

having to withdraw partially burned down and full of your own excrement is just too much of a perfect analogy of the US under/after Trump.

There is difference between disapproving of a countries government and thinking that they are criminals and terrorists e.g. Iran or Israel, and hating the country or people. One can hate the current US executive arm of government and not hate America or Americans. The legislature and judiciary can be blamed for not holding the executive to account in the way that 'checks and balances' were supposed to.

It must be sad at times to hate your own country as much as you seem to do.

not as sad as the amount of people that seem to be ok with the way things are going. in fact, i think a few decades of blind patriotism has marched us right into ruin.

do you think the trump admin represents american interests? if not, why argue against calling them out? or rather, are they right and you just don't like the phrasing? well put on your big boy pants

I assume it must also be sad to see your country become a shameless rogue state dancing to the tune of an egomaniac surrounded by sychophants who outdo each other on lavishing North Korea-style praises of the Dear Leader. If someone loved their country and saw that, I would expect that to be a hard sight to watch.

A reasonable inference is that that person is looking at their country's actions objectively and recognizing the faults for what they are. That person is not adopting the blindered MAGA "America love it or leave it!" perspective that some on this forum. and elsewhere, display so openly. That person disagrees with their own country's actions in the incidents under discussion with no indication of hatred involved. This obsession with hatred is very much a rightist trait.

Yes, we know: anything less than blind acceptance, nay, adulation, of everything and anything from the USA (and Israel) can only be motivated by pure hatred and a wish for the destruction of those two countries and their people :xrolleyes

It must be sad all the time to be a Trump sycophant and hurl blind accusations of hatred against anyone who criticizes his actions. But then we all know that no criticism of government actions is permitted in the dictatorship that many Americans are looking forward to.

That they in fact love America, but hate the current direction it is obviously heading?

Is that the only alternative you can imagine to America being the bad guys? Weird.

That they in fact love America, but hate the current direction it is obviously heading?
Yeah, no. That's not a credible defense. Not in a conflict with Iran of all countries. Even if you think this was a mistake, to cast us as the bad guys (and Iran as the good guys by implication) isn't simply about being unhappy with the "current direction".

There is difference between disapproving of a countries government and thinking that they are criminals and terrorists
Indeed there is.

The statement that we are the bad guys isn't simply disapproval of actions. It's a condemnation of our nature.

No, not if it relates to a particular event or series of events.

"My son was in a traffic accident. Turns out he was the bad guy"

You're working this strawman to death here. Why?

Even if you think this was a mistake, to cast us as the bad guys (and Iran as the good guys by implication) (...)
If I criticise the guy who decided to 'solve the problem' of the big hornet's nest next to the park by putting a ladder next to it, climbing up, then hauling off and kicking the hornet's nest as hard as he could, that does not imply that I think the hornets are the good guys.
