A Revolution Could Soon Be Under Way in Iran

It's OK the killing has stopped.

Trump: We have been told that the killing in Iran is stopping, has stopped…. I've been told that on good authority.

Yeah, now it's thousands killed, Donny. This is a rerun of your "it's only a dozen dead people" comments at the start of Covid-19. As well as being a raging incompetent lunatic, you are also a soulless, uncaring ghoul.

So has everyone just lost all interest in the revolution in Iran?

I seem to recall a lot of claims that Trump has to do something to help the protesters but we’ve already moved on from liberating the people of Iran to liberating the minerals of Greenland.

As is the Guardian

The BBC and The Guardian are not interested! I have it on the good authority of… oh, other posters who also seem to have lost interest.

I’m beginning to suspect that there was something of an AstroTurf campaign to get people cheering for Reza Pahlavi to return to the Peacock Throne to continue that completely not made up by the Pahlavis claim of 2500 years of unbroken monarchy tracing right back to Cyrus the Great.

It’s quite amazing to me that some people can watch a couple of videos and suddenly adopt a nationalistic fervour for another country’s monarchy. But it happened. We all saw it happen.

you don't understand what "exception that proves the rule" means.
"proves" means "tests", i.e. the fact that there is an exception from what your rule expected means that your rule is deficient and needs revising, not that it becomes somehow more correct by being proven false.

Actually the original meaning as it was explained to me is that a pre specified exception confirms that the rule is valid in all other circumstances. For example, if a parking restriction states "No Parking Except Sundays 8am-10pm" you can't argue it was okay to park there Monday evening at 7'm 'because it's outside of business hours'.

Hmmm. Interest in other countries' monarchies, eh? The perfect candidate for the throne of Iran is Prince Harry!

The French media too https://www.lemonde.fr/iran/ (in French)

Long before she knew what a video was, my mother did believe it.
Like most readers of infamous French tabloids like "Ici Potins" and "Allo Ragots", she was following, with tears in her eyes, the glamorous life and tribulations of the shah and its court, and mourned the end of the golden days … 🙄

A bit of trivia; there's a Swedish film called The Queen and I, made by an Iranian woman, Nahid Persson Sarvrstani, who came here in 1979. Her family had opposed the Shah, but soon found themselves even more opposed to the theocracy, so they came here. 30 years later, she sought out Farah Pahlavi, and the film is about her, and Nahid, and the monarchy and the opposition. It's a fascinating film; Farah Diba Pahlavi, in her luxurious exile in Paris, does not seem to have noticeably changed her views, and she and Nahid have nothing much in common, except their longing for the country they lost. It's a history lesson about Iran, told from diametrically opposed points of view, by two women who have been exiled for very different reasons.

True. It was the point of the Persepolis celebration. And yes there absolutely are plenty of monarchists in exile, and no doubt some still living in Iran now.

Small precision, my mom's only connection to Iran outside was an oriental rug dealer in Geneva, Switzerland … ;)
