Russell Brand accused of rape and sexual assault

I know what the Old Bailey is. I'm Australian - we learned about it in primary school. I was wondering what you meant by "Not the Old Bailey!"

The hearing wasn't at the Old Bailey - it was Westminster magistrates court. His trial will be at the Old Bailey, though. I trust that is all the information you require.

Russell Brand charged with new rape and sexual assault offences

Russell Brand has been charged with two further offences including one count of rape, the Metropolitan Police has said.

In a new statement, the police force said the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised an additional charge of rape and a charge of sexual assault relating to two further women.

The broadcaster, comedian and actor previously pleaded not guilty to five charges including two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault in relation to four women.

Brand, 50, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 20 January 2026 in relation to the two new charges.

So pretending to be a devout Christian is his new schtick?

Reminds me of A Clockwork Orange. If memory serves, Brand was a big fan of the book (and/or movie). He wrote a book called "My Booky Wook" which is a bit of a homage to the Nadsat argot used by characters in the book. So is he now aping young Alex from the book who found Christianity when he got in a bit of trouble with the law?

To steal a phrase from Samuel Johnson, often it's religion that is the "last refuge of the scoundrel".

Yes, when the accusations the first time round were swiftly followed by a performative baptism and a born again frenzy. Fortunately he found a new audience for whom being accused of rape is just falling foul of the "woke crowd". Now he is the darling of other very religious right-wingers like Alex Jones and Tucker Carlson.
