General Israel/Palestine discussion thread - Part 4

Pure Colonialism: "your society doesn't conform to our standards for a Nation, so we can take what we want".

Call it what you want: Israel is pushing people by force from their land.
In the West Bank, Israel, Settlers And IDF, continue to kill residents and journalists to steal their land.

AJ is effectively the state media arm of Qatar, a major sponsor, along with Iran, of Hamas.

I really wish the broad western left would remember both South Sudan and how little freedom their "liberators" are likely to give the Palestinian people.

shooting the messenger, I see.

you sure you want to defend the Settlers ?

even by Israeli Law, and certainly International Law, Israel has no business whatsoever in the West Bank, and yet it is arming and supporting a terror movement of its own people against the lawful inhabitants.

What is your position on the Settlers and the West Bank?

The WB and Gaza belonged to no country in 1967. Egypt and Jordan's occupation of them was never recognised. Corrupt and authoritarian kleptocrats (the PLO/Fatah) and judenfrei theocrats (Hamas and their ilk) are no Mandela.

Stevie Wonder sang this lyric in 1980: "Peace has come to Zimbabwe!"

*saddened look*

this a a completely nuts story about the Military Advocate General of the Israel Defense Forces leaking the video of Palestinian Prisoners being tortured and raped after being stonewalled to investigate and prosecute the case and the people, some lawmakers, breaking laws to prevent the arrest of the torturers.
looks like she wanted to force the case to be resumed to alleviate the allegation that the Israeli Judicial System can't or won't prosecute war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians - the events show that this is in fact the case.
This leaves IDF members likely to have committed crimes exposed to prosecution by the ICC and other countries as it is impossible for them to get justice in Israel.

That's from a proxy Hamas website, that is notorious for posting anti-Semitic slander and Hamas propaganda. I'd take that nonsense with a pinch of salt.

eta: Ah. She resigned over the leak. Not over what has reportedly happened, but over the leak. Certainly this is anti-Semitic Hamas propaganda, all of it, but at least the ghostwriter of this piece for that disreputable website has a sense of irony, how nice.

Not being able to criticise or condemn religious or cultural practices where they are harmful is dangerous - even the suffix -phobia makes it seem like Islam is inherent to a person (ala homophobia). Freedom of religion is supposed to be a keystone. Also, freedom from it.

It’s crucial to differentiate between:

*Criticizing beliefs and practices e.g. questioning or condemning specific harmful aspects of Islam, Christianity, or any religion (e.g., forced veiling, FGM, or anti-LGBTQ+ doctrines).
* Targeting individuals or groups e.g. discriminating against people based on their religious identity, such as banning Muslims from public spaces or workplaces.

Yet the video showed the rape of a palestinian prisoner by IDF members. Abuse including sexual abuse of Palestinian prisoners has been documented for a long time, it has just become worse. How many Palestinian prisoners have died as result of abuse?

Claiming the BBC is a Hamas proxy website makes you look foolish.

Speaking of people spouting myths: Terra nullius means "no state" not "no people".

Also, given the events of 1947 and since at the hands of reactionary Arab Muslim leadership and their allied militias, saying Palestinian Christians opposed a group that were largely desperate holocaust survivors is like saying Black people fought for the Confederacy, technically yes but...
Your ignorance betrays that your opinions are based on lack of knowledge.

The phrase is 'a land without people for a people without land'. A historic and oft repeated fallacy. Even here some have argued there were no real inhabitants of what is now Israel, just visiting Syrians etc. No latin involved.

Israel Zangwill, who was initially a mainstream Zionist but later rejected Palestine as a destination, was one of the most prolific users of the phrase. In 1901 in the New Liberal Review, Zangwill wrote that "Palestine is a country without a people; the Jews are a people without a country". In a debate at the Article Club in November of that year, Zangwill said "Palestine has but a small population of Arabs and fellahin and wandering, lawless, blackmailing Bedouin tribes. Restore the country without a people to the people without a country."

I do. I also know that Al Jazeera is independent of it and the government does not dictate its content or editorial policy.
If you actually had any credibility, you have just lost it:

"Al Jazeera, fully funded by the Qatari government, serves as a strategic instrument for promoting Doha's foreign policy priorities, including support for Islamist movements such as the Muslim Brotherhood." (Source: Grokipedia)
