Just under 5 million. But turnout won't be anywhere near 100%. 50% turnout would be record-breaking for recent decades.

Sample sizes that large are almost always very reliable.

In Australia elections are called with less than 20% of the vote in.
 
How many registered voters in NY City? Supposedly around 5.3 million, but today's turnout was the biggest since Lindsay won in 1969.

The number of voters casting ballots in the tense three-way race for mayor between Zohran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa is breaking records, with more than 2 million check-ins, according to the city Board of Elections. By comparison, 1.1 million ballots were cast in the entire 2021 election won by Mayor Eric Adams, and the last election to see such numbers was in 1969, when John Lindsay, running on a third-party line, won a second term against two rivals. Good show for Mamdani. However he has a hard road ahead. And it wont be just from the Repug MAGAS, but also from the Establishment Dems who seem to see him as a bigger threat than the orange doofus. And there is already a concerted effort on almost all social media trying to paint him as some sort of jihadi terrorist.

I have decided to take a break from FaceBook for a week or so. There is more fearmongering about Mamdani among the saffron crowd on there I am than there is in the US currently. My feed is currently inundated with predictions of planes flying through sky scrapers.

No. A more serious question: How long will it take before Trump rejects one or more of yesterday's votes as fixed and all his little lapdogs start yapping that he's right?
