General UK politics VIII - The Last Tory

A good example of a none apology.
All she has done it seems, is make Reform types think she's some kind of traitor.

Sarah Pochin MP
@SarahForRuncorn
My comments on a Talk TV phone-in earlier today were phrased poorly and I unreservedly apologise for any offence caused, which was not my intention.

The point I was making is that many British TV adverts have gone DEI mad and are now unrepresentative of British society as a whole. This is not an attack on any group but an observation about balance and fairness in how our country is portrayed on screen.

A study commissioned by Channel 4 as part of its Mirror on the Industry project, found that Black people were featured in more than half of adverts in 2022, up sharply from 37 per cent in 2020 following the Black Lives Matter movement. By contrast, Black people make up around 4 per cent of the population in England and Wales, according to the 2021 Census.

Representation in advertising should reflect the diversity of modern Britain, but it should also be proportionate and inclusive of everyone. My comments were made in that context, and I stand by the principle that equality should mean fairness for all.

Extraordinary.
@Nigel_Farage tells Bloomberg that the Church of England has been “terrible in the last 25 years” and that “if I was a more regular churchgoer, I probably would have defected to the Catholics. I haven’t, but I’ve thought about it a couple of times”.

Oh, do ◊◊◊◊ off you useless pillock.

Your obvious attempt to co-opt the 'woman archbishop is the end of the world' narrative is obvious.

You are no more religious than I am.

[Nige not Andy, obvs]

So the CofE has a very poor ROI by the new CEO, Nige?

Nige saying he'd defect should definitely concern them because Führage is famous for his loyalty to the Tory UKIP Brexit Reform Party Ltd.

In relation to the question about seeing tv ads with no white people on them the answer is "umm... never, unless I'm watching one of those 70's style racist clip shows making fun of foreigners and their 'weird' ads"

Speaking of being representative of the general British public, I believe 80% of Reform Ltd MPs went to public school.

The UKian benefit fraud crackdown is unaware of Ireland;
Idiots.
Another nail in the coffin for unionism's cherised (and unevidenced) belief that "Westminster loves us really".

Stuff like this is making reunification more and more likely and it's happening daily.

Reform UK MP Sarah Pochin,

It drives me mad seeing adverts full of black people, full of Asian people, full of anything other than white"

"Your average white person, your average white family, is not represented anymore in TV advertising"

"How many times do you look at a TV advert and you think there's not a single white person on it"

"It's something that has happened, because, I believe, the woke liberati that goes on inside this sort of you know arty-farty world"

"I'm hearing this more and more. People notice. And people will switch off
Advertisers do research to enable them to tailor their ads to the market. If ads really are "full of black people" then that will be because they have identified this as something that will sell products, not make people switch off.

ETA: for an example of an advertiser tailoring its advertising to its target market, see this advert full of non-white faces.

More details have emerged about how Prince Andrew can afford his sprawling 30-room Windsor mansion, in a lease agreement which has been revealed.

The arrangement means he has only ever paid a token annual rent on Royal Lodge, and even that might not be required under his deal with the Crown Estate, a document seen by BBC News confirms.

I imagine advertisers discovered that people are more likely to buy a product if they see someone who looks like them buying it, and therefore decided to include actors of all ethnicities in their ads. As there are many different ethnicities that would inevitably mean that the percentage of white actors in ads would drop - though not to zero, of course, as they still want to sell to white consumers too.

I think that white consumers are so ubiquitous in the UK that with very few exceptions it's a given that products are targeted at them. Advertising in general increases brand awareness, but the use of minority actors also spreads the message 'this product is for you too'.

For "if I was a more regular churchgoer" read "if I was even faintly religious, which I'm not".

For "Catholics" read "Russian Orthodox".

If it was the first time it had happened I would have agreed, but if it's true that it's happened 250 times in the last year that suggests a systemic problem that was pretty much bound to occur on a high profile case eventually.
250 times is laughable. It happens a hell a lot more than that.

I've read some very unsavoury comments about adverts showing "mix race" couples and children. It's all about replacing the white English. (Deliberately put English and not British.)

Of course, if he'd been around in the 7th century he'd have been demanding that these people who were trying to introduce a foreign religion from the Middle East be deported.
