Merged Charlie Kirk shot at Utah Valley University event. / Charlie Kirk Shot And Killed

Doesn't change the fact that they were Democrats at the time.
I was illustrating the point made by someone earlier about the folly of going back and using historical behaviour to justify a stance on current behaviour. The way the Republican party and it's ilk are behaving NOW is the issue, not the way they behaved in the past.
Like the dixiecrats and their hero Strom Thurmond who went over the the republican party. But that is too many facts for this debate.

By saying "their ilk" you show your disingenuousness in ignoring, willfully, the bizarre almost complete flipping of the two major party's platforms.
We know where the more hateful, racist folk land today and we know where they were before.
It's really not that hard to keep it straight, and to be honest about it.

Just as Lincoln was indeed a Republican in his day. Would he be so in ours?

The thing is, in the Lucy Connelly case, she said what she did in the heat of an argument, in the fallout of the brutal and sadistic murder of three pre-teen girls by a Rwandan immigrant at a children's party, having lost her own child to a hospital's medical negligence.. She regretted saying what she did, and walked it back within 90 minutes by deleting the post - a post that only a few dozen people ever saw. For that she was sentenced to two and a half years in jail.
In the same week as her sentencing, two child rapists got suspended sentences of 18 and 24 months.
It's not so much that she was jailed for an ill-advised Tweet that made people angry, so much as the posting of a nasty Tweet was deemed to be a worse offence, and received a more severe punishment, than raping a child.
She shouldn't have said she was guilty and instead had a trial.

Yes because the killer was the sort of "leftist" who embraces far right (as in neo Nazi) culture. Including particularly anti-Semitic tropes. Like the "notices bulges" comment.
In what way is an internet meme referring to noticing male genitals an 'anti-Semitic trope'?

Visa Revocations are underway.

Secretary Marco Rubio
@SecRubio
America will not host foreigners who celebrate the death of our fellow citizens.
Visa revocations are under way. If you are here on a visa and cheering on the public assassination of a political figure, prepare to be deported. You are not welcome in this country.

Because noticing has become a trope meaning that you notice the jews running things, or blacks being less than human. It is called a dogwhistle.
Yup.

Also the original cartoon for the notices bulges meme has a character that wouldn't be out of place as the antagonist in a Jack Chick cartoon.

ETA. I wasn't aware that it was so recent, I spotted it around 2020. Again looking at the intersection between antivaxers and Nazis

They don’t kill you because you’re a Nazi, they call you a Nazi so they can kill you.
Political violence is a left-wing phenomenon.
Enough is enough — we need to shut it down.

Prosecutors announce their intent to seek the death penalty on a charge of aggravated murder among other charges.
That news conference recited evidence that speaks to motive.

The text exchanges read at the news conference are evidence that Robinson was in a romantic relationship with his gender-transitioning roommate, that he was aware his parents had gone full MAGA in recent years, and that Robinson was angry with Charlie Kirk for (as yet unspecified, but it isn't hard to guess) things Kirk had said.

I apologize for the following armchair psychology, but this is how it looks to me.

Robinson had to be aware that his parents would disapprove of his relationship with his roommate. (Whether they knew about it is not yet clear to me, but they would surely learn of it eventually.) Rather than have it out with his parents, which would have been tough on a 22-year-old who had been raised in that kind of family, he directed his anger toward Charlie Kirk. Robinson was angry with Charlie Kirk, so Charlie Kirk had to die. (I'm not saying that makes sense, but that's the message I got from Robinson's texts read at the news conference.)
