The thing is, in the Lucy Connelly case, she said what she did in the heat of an argument, in the fallout of the brutal and sadistic murder of three pre-teen girls by a Rwandan immigrant at a children's party, having lost her own child to a hospital's medical negligence.. She regretted saying what she did, and walked it back within 90 minutes by deleting the post - a post that only a few dozen people ever saw. For that she was sentenced to two and a half years in jail.
In the same week as her sentencing, two child rapists got suspended sentences of 18 and 24 months.
It's not so much that she was jailed for an ill-advised Tweet that made people angry, so much as the posting of a nasty Tweet was deemed to be a worse offence, and received a more severe punishment, than raping a child.
