It doesn't seem to matter that they have no policy ideas at all beyond inflicting the greatest possible pain and anguish on those they hate. People love easy solutions for stuff they're scared about, and of course the leopard won't eat their face.

Germany elected the Nazis, and I'm sure even as the cult seemed to be getting a bit carried away, people assumed it was somehow going to be fine.

It's Trump. He could shoot someone on the street and all his tribe members would say is 'Yeah baby, this is our guy. Look at him. MAGA'
 
All the checks and balances in the world are worthless when they have a get-out clause in an emergency and this one guy decides to just declare "Well, I say it's an emergency". When it obviously is no such thing, his response is simply "◊◊◊◊ you I say it's an emergency" and that's that.

250 years is a decent innings but it's bye bye time for the old republic and hail Caesar.

I've mentioned before that, in the setting for the Battletech game, the head military commander took control of one of the interstellar nations "for the duration of the current emergency". Several hundred years later, the emergency still hadn't ended and his descendants were still in charge.

Is there a "Dumb ◊◊◊◊ Trump genuinely seems to believe is true" thread? Maybe there should be.

It could have;
* the result of the 2020 election was fiddled and he really won it.
* violent crime in DC is at the levels of 30 years ago.
* asylum seekers come from lunatic asylums.
* other countries clear away brush from their forest floors to prevent forest fires.
* Haitian immigrants cook and eat their neighbours' pets.


Plenty more of course these few just came to mind first.

None of these awful visitations on the USA are Trump's personal ideas. They are all from his backroom boys, the fascist heathens and bullies who invent the "crimes" and the "punishments". They are insane fascist scum who want to restart the Third Reich and the Final Solution right where Himmler left off when the Allies smashed them in 1945. Trump is just their stupid fat orange sock-puppet who has no idea what he really thinks besides "GIMME EAT!"

Sure, maybe an antidemocratic party getting controlbover the government won't topple democracy. Checks and balances ed. I'm just pointing out that in the first past the post system it is easier for parties representing a minority of the voters to gain mandate like the GOP in the US is now abusing.
