Trump's Second Term

I await with cringe the statement from The POSOTUS that the massive earthquake in Russia, Russia, Russia is a sign for them to capitulate to his demands. I didn't want to pollute that dedicated thread so I posted it here.
Jeezuss, I hate that ◊◊◊◊◊◊ for stuff he hasn't even done yet.

Those capabilities are aftermarket additions that the Air Force would have to make either way.

It would be different if Boeing had actually un-assed the new version ten years ago like they were supposed to. It's a sad day when an oil prince has more Air Force 1s in his back pocket than an American aerospace giant has in their entire inventory.
Trump isn't interested in those additions, he wants his gold-plated shiny aeroplane now so he can show off to his potentate/dictator/ oligarch friends.

The "oil prince" doesn't have Air Force 1s (or VC25s or whatever the correct designation for the plane itself is), he has VIP versions of the 747 - quite a different animal. It's like the difference between having a small fleet of Cadillac limos and The Beast.

In any case how many of these things does the US need? Should it acquire a dozen of them simply because some other foreign leader has a fleet of 10 VIP transports ?

I wonder what caveats are bearied in the trade agreement with the EU.....
I would not be surprised if the "deal" is vetoed fairly sharpish. The French hate it, and Merz is getting it hard in the neck from the German business community for agreeing to such a bad deal.
I wonder if that might have actually been the plan all along.

The "higher ups" agree to a bad deal to get Trump off their back. Trump brags and "suspends" higher tariffs for a while. Member states of the EU veto the deal, and by then Trump is distracted by something else.

I'm guessing there's an 'up to' somewhere in there, or some other language equivalent to it. The only energy the US could export would be coal oil and gas and I doubt there's much of a market for those given the relative costs versus other sources of gas and oil, coal is pretty much a non starter.
I think there is a significant market for US fossil Fuels in Europe.

They had been importing a significant amounts from Russia, until their little spat with Ukraine made European countries decide to limit imports from there, necessitating them to find other suppliers. (Note they do have other suppliers, such as Saudi Arabia, Libya, and Norway, but it seems like the US has expanded its sales more than anyone else.)

(I think one of the biggest mistakes the Europeans made was building pipelines with Russia, an unreliable trading partner.)

I reckon I know how Swinney got tarriffs on Scotch sorted: he went through the documents and just placed a strategic "e" every time the relevant word was used.

Anyone think The Donald would know the difference?
