I am more inclined to suspect there is no more evidence of Velez assaulting officers than there is in McIver's case. Threatened with a lawsuit for wrongful arrest, allegedly supported by video evidence, my guess is that ICE is trying to figure out how to make the assault charge go away, which may have led to postponement of the 17 July court date.

If that were true, it seems like her attorney would want to keep the case in the public eye, to maintain pressure on ICE. But he's not doing that.

If they were to do this then it would quickly become apparent how important immigrants (legal or otherwise) are to the US and that few or none of the problems the US is facing are anything to do with immigrants and immigration.

We already know how to get rid of illegal immigration. Charge every single business owner $50,000 per illegal immigrant they hire. It's literally that simple. If no one hires them then they won't come here to get work, right? The US won't do that though, for all the reasons you mentioned.
