Or neither, because most of us live half a planet away from the places in question. Despite the best efforts of both sides the conflict is their own, and nobody else is compelled to participate.

The people in WTC 1 and 2 lived half a planet away, but they still died because of that conflict. That's what a global intifada looks like. It looks like violence in your own home regardless of how far away it is from the flashpoint.

What is it about "globalize" that you don't understand? Do you not realize that the whole point is to bring the conflict home to people who live half a planet away?

*Looks around globe* Still seems pretty local to there, apart from the occasional outbreak of exported terrorism. Do you think those incidents should impel affected nations to take a side and act? And how far -- declare war? We did two wars after 9/11, and neither were against Palestine.

All you're telling me is that you think the intifada is a bad thing, you're glad it hasn't gotten more global yet, and you hope it never does get more global.

And of course I agree with all of this.

Then hooray! perhaps someone would go back to discussing the mayoral election of NYC. I'm actually not that interested in that either, not being in or from NYC, but I do find it more interesting than rehashing the Palestine/Israel thing for the septillionth time as if it would ever make a difference.

It would be nice if a certain mayoral candidate did not want to bring the intifada to his city.

Al qaeda had no interest in Palestinian liberation, WTC 1 and 2 had nothing to do with the Palestinian intifada. They objected to US policies in the Islamic Arab world. This is just black propaganda, trying to associate an unrelated terrorists movement with different objectives to the Palestinian intifada.

I'm in my mid forties and I don't hear 'intifada' and think 'bus bombings' though I am aware of the latter. 'jihad' for me is the one that reads as a call for war, though I learned the fuller meanings later.

I think you are correct. If another term was created to describe the non-violent struggle for Palestinian independence then it would be rapidly blackened by claiming it was the same as, apologist for, supporter of violence.
