General UK politics VIII - The Last Tory

I'm glad I stayed away from the UK this weekend. I was in London the day of the Poll Tax riots and I didn't fancy living through that kind of chaos again.
I was in London today, lots of people wearing football shirts(Championship League promotion playoff) and quite a number dressed up as Anime characters(MCM Comicon). I suspect the crowds at both events dwarfed the national attendance at this so-called strike.

GB News say that in the face of the poll they just did that shows 96% want Starmer to go and the widespread support for the national strike today Starmer has to call an Election.

The new Mayor is going to speak to the council about sex education.

Lincolnshire County Council is encouraging 9 year olds to have sex education, including learning about pansexual and Non-Binary. I don't want any child that young learning about this or sex full stop. I have spoken about this in parliament previously. I will speak to our new Reform Council about pushing back on this.

I do not want primary school children full stop to have sex education. Nor do I want children to be taught about changing gender. We need to protect their innocence and childhood.

I went to a grammar school, entry to which was based on having a functioning brain. Nobody there was part of the Establishment and as far as I’m aware none of us went on to become so either. There were plenty of fee-paying schools in the area for those kinds of people.

Kent never abolished the 11+, they just call it the Kent Test. It is still in use today.
Yup, and it means that the comprehensives end up without the able kids that normal comprehensives get, and from observation, is probably particularly hard on those who are on the borderline for passing. Either academic in an anti-academic environment or propping up the bottom of the class in a highly competitive environment, rather than being one of the more academically able kids in a properly comprehensive system

Apparently there was a "national strike" today (yes Saturday) an online friend's daughter saw the Southampton one. About 10 people with flags, including a Soviet one.

I don't see how it can be 'properly comprehensive' when you have a two-tier system. My son went to a highly sought-after local comprehensive. Despite already being in an advantaged area (wealthy parents moving in to take advantage of the highly-rated schools [the catchment area game]) he and about three others were left to their own devices being so far ahead of the others. They did get to do some teaching and they turned out alright - getting all the right grades - but I don't see why the brightest kids should be held back; they have just as much right to thrive as the majority population.

One thing about the grammar school tripartate system (11+ for all) meant people from disadvantaged backgrounds had a genuine chance of social mobility.

Having said that, in reality, the school uniforms were so expensive many of those couldn't afford to go anyway.

Trump sends free-speech team to interview UK activists

Donald Trump sent US officials to meet British pro-life activists over concerns their freedom of speech has been threatened, The Telegraph can reveal.

A team from the US state department spent days in the country and interviewed campaigners to feed back to the White House.

The five-person team met with five activists who had been arrested for silently protesting outside abortion clinics across Britain.

Washington launched the fact-finding mission after becoming concerned about the erosion of free speech in the UK.

The visit is the latest sign of the Trump administration’s willingness to intervene in domestic British affairs.

The diplomats from the US bureau of democracy, human rights and labor (DRL) travelled to London in March in an effort to “affirm the importance of freedom of expression in the UK and across Europe”.

Alexander 'Boris' Johnson has had another child with current wife Carrie, according to Sky this is their fourth (I was a couple behind which I take as a glowing endorsement of my ability to mostly ignore things I don't give a ◊◊◊◊ about), doesn't that put him into double figures even though the actual number is not known, publicly or most likely by him?
