They really can't seem to comprehend that without the immigrants legal illegal, sectors of the US economy will either grind to a halt or prices will go through the roof, or a combination of both.

Wow. For those who haven't clicked the link, I recommend you do so. It's an article by a journalist who was inadvertently added to a chat group involving the USA's highest security officials, including the VP, while they discussed attacking the Houthis.

A few issues here...

- He's already working to cripple the economy by slapping tariffs on everything. One more set of tariffs isn't going to make much difference at this point.
- The US imports hundreds of thousands of barrels of crude oil from Venezuela every year. Is it going to start putting tariffs on itself? And if he decides to cut off all imports from Venezuela, how exactly do you think the refineries will handle the loss (since some of them specifically handle the 'sour/high sulfur' oil that Venezuela produces)
- This is likely going to drive up the cost of oil and gas, so be prepared to pay more at the pumps. So much for "lowering prices".

I can't even tell what Dump's obsession with tariffs is about at this point. Does he really think it's going to benefit the US economy somehow? Or is it just that he's fixating on it because it's his go-to tool for punishing or coercing other countries? I mean, I know he can't be considered a rational actor anymore by any means, but I wonder how he rationalizes it in his head. If he even does.

He doesn't know (or care) what tariffs actually are or do, all that matters to Trump is that it's a thing he can cause to happen. Therefore he does it.

There's a card game I play sometimes with my family, and my mother always immediately plays a certain card the instant she draws it, whether it's a suitable time for playing it, or gives her an advantage or not. She drew it, she plays it, she can't or won't understand any strategy with it. It got into her head "this is a good card!" and therefore it's intrinsically good, and therefore it must be always good to play it always. I think that's how Trump thinks of tariffs.

But, yet again, I doubt anything will come of it. It's a huge national security breach, involving the most senior figures in the administration, but they'll just harumph it away and ignore it. Next week, the press focus will have moved elsewhere, and it will never be mentioned again.

Which is why the USA will now levy a 25% tariff on itself being the second largest importer of Venezuelan oil.

Sorry, we the victims of Trump's coup will not let you get away with your 'semantic twaddle'. Officially, the President is the chief officer of the executive branch, he is the president in title of a nation, specifically the executive branch of the nation, and not any one citizen or person.
Any definition you find will say "head of a republic". A republic, by definition, is a nation *state*--not an individual! If you can find any reference that says a citizen has a "president" (as opposed to a state having a president) provide it! Otherwise, admit your misunderstanding and move on! Trolling is not welcome here.
