Trump's Second Term

_____ reportedly had asked for the original to be moved into the oval office, but was talked out of the idea because of the difficulty of moving the original (it is preserved in a display case filled with argon rather than the normal atmosphere).
In this one instance I think Trump may have been on to something. They really should have let him have the original, and made the Oval Office airtight and filled with argon. Trump would then have the original document while enjoying the preserving benefits of an argon atmosphere himself!

Awesome.
Shut. It. Down.

More bureaucracy is not the answer to kids who cannot read. Kids are worse off now than ever.
Giant waste of money that never improved anything in terms of results.

Next: get rid of California's Teachers Union. A selfish grift that harms the kids.
Offer vouchers for school choice. Let parents decide.
Yeah. Who needs consistency in education anyway? Why should Mississippi be held to the same standard as Massachusetts? They want creationism? Let them have creationism. States' Rights. Yeah.

If the original ever went to the Oval Office, it would go to Mar a Lago folded in a banker box.

The DOI is a funny little document. Its a paragraph justifying the need for Independence from England, but after that its just a list of acts by George III that have led to the Declaration. It was done so relatively early in the conflict that some of the complaints lack details, such as "hiring of foreign mercenaries". At the time of the signing the Continental Congress still didn't know where, if anywhere, George was getting more soldiers. It turned out to be mostly Hessians (and other Germans) but nobody knew at the time as George was appealing to Russia and other old allies.
Of course as a German prince (as well as King of England and Scotland and Ireland) german troops weren't mercenaries.

President Trump has withdrawn an EO targeting Paul Weiss law firm after coming to an "agreement"

Its chairman agreed to, among other things, “dedicate the equivalent of $40 million in pro bono legal services over the course of President Trump’s term to support the Administration’s initiatives, including: assisting our Nation’s veterans, fairness in the Justice System, the President’s Task Force to Combat Antisemitism, and other mutually agreed projects.”
"Engage experts, to be mutually agreed upon within 14 days, to conduct a comprehensive audit of all of its employment practices."

@realDonald Trump
Today, President Donald J. Trump agreed to withdraw his March 14, 2025 Executive Order regarding the Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP law firm ("Paul, Weiss"), which has entered into the following agreement with the President:
1. Paul, Weiss agrees that the bedrock principle of American Justice is that it must be fair and nonpartisan for all. Our Justice System is betrayed when it is misused to achieve political ends.
Lawyers and law firms play a vital role in ensuring that we live up to that standard as a Nation. Law firms should not favor any political party when it comes to choosing their clients. Firms also should not make decisions on whom to hire based on a person's political affiliation. To do otherwise is to deny some Americans an equal opportunity for our services while favoring others.
Lawyers abandon the profession's highest ideals when they engage in partisan decision-making, and betray the ethical obligation to represent those who are unpopular or disfavored in a particular environment.
2. Paul, Weiss affirms its unwavering commitment to these core ideals and principles, and will not deny representation to clients, including in pro bono matters and in support of non-profits, because of the personal political views of individual lawyers.
3. Paul, Weiss will take on a wide range of pro bono matters that represent the full spectrum of political viewpoints of our society, whether "conservative" or "liberal."
4. Paul, Weiss affirms its commitment to merit-based hiring, promotion, and retention, and will not adopt, use, or pursue any DEI policies. As part of its commitment, it will engage experts, to be mutually agreed upon within 14 days, to conduct a comprehensive audit of all of its employment practices.
5. Paul, Weiss will dedicate the equivalent of $40 million in pro bono legal services over the course of President Trump's term to support the Administration's initiatives, including: assisting our Nation's veterans, fairness in the Justice System, the President's Task Force to Combat Antisemitism, and other mutually agreed projects.

Statement from the White House: "The President is agreeing to this action in light of a meeting with Paul, Weiss Chairman, Brad Karp, during which Mr. Karp acknowledged the wrongdoing of former Paul, Weiss partner, Mark Pomerantz, the grave dangers of Weaponization, and the vital need to restore our System of Justice."

In response to the President's announcement, Paul, Weiss's Chairman Brad Karp said: "We are gratified that the President has agreed to withdraw the Executive Order concerning Paul, Weiss. We look forward to an engaged and constructive relationship with the President and his Administration."

I'm not sure why the media are making such a big deal out of this. It apparently is not unusual for presidents to request to have historical documents, paintings, or photos displayed in the oval office.
He wanted one if the two most historical American documents moved to his office where few would actually be able to see it from the Rotunda of the National Archives where many can see it. It belongs to the American people, not to him.

I suspect this was a revenge power play against the National Archives considering his history with the NA over the documents case.

I'm at a loss for words.

How on earth can something like that possibly be legal?!

The first bullet point is explicitly aimed at Mark F. Pomerantz, who left the firm to work on the State of New York case against trump.

Funny story. (Also true)

An ex who was a solicitor for a top london law firm (S&M for those in the know) had a UTI and saw that a local health clinic had a 'working women's' clinic.

She made an appointment, and whilst waiting got into a discussion with others in the waiting room. What do you do you do? 'I'm a Solicitor''. What do you charge? (A little forward she thought.) £ 500/hr. That's a lot! Well it's inclusive of VAT. At that point she noticed a lot of interest from others in the waiting room.'Do you always dress like that?' ( She was wearing skirt suit and blouse) 'Well my clients expect a professional appearance'. She mentioned she was employed for S&M, which seemed to explain to her companions her high charge out rate. It wasn't until she saw the doctor who said they mostly saw working women she realised that the sort of soliciting she did was different from the rest of the women in the clinic. FWIW she thought the medical care was excellent although a little intrusive.
