Trump's Second Term

well it’s much better than that. first of all, tariffs are good, they bring in a bunch of money and don’t cost anyone anything. so, all these tariffs are only going to make things better and better. why wouldn’t canada also start using them?

A tariff is a tax on goods coming into a country.

Isn’t Ontario’s 25% charge on electric going to the U.S. much better described as a surcharge?

If the Republicans were willing to do their part they could have been shot of Trump using the 25th amendment or impeachment.

The problem isn't that there aren't mechanisms to remove Trump, it's that the GOP won't use them.

If the Conservatives had been similarly intransigent then Truss would have stayed on as PM.
Isn’t the problem also that Republicans fear for their seats if they go against Trump, but the Tories would lose their seats if they didn’t oust Truss?

As a former Boss of mine would say, "Is he okay? No he's not 'okay,' he's the opposite of okay."

Seriously, though, look at all that's happened and trump hasn't even been in office two months. It's become nonstop. Forty-six more months of this? Given trump's record (in business) for abject failure, we HAVE to find a way to get him out of office. We have to.

I don't think that there will be 46 more months of this. There are a finite number of things that _____ can break, and at his current pace he will pretty much have those broken in 12-18 months.

Getting rid of _____ will only happen if he trashes the economy so badly that his lapdogs in Congress realize that they will lose badly in any election. Which means that Americans will have to suffer a lot of pain before getting rid of him.

I don't see this lasting that long, either. It's like unmitigated climate change, it's simply not sustainable.

Will what comes after Dump be better, though? I honestly don't know.

Sen. Tuberville is probably the stupidest person in Congress, but I would entertain nominations for a competitor.

So under Biden, especially during the campaign, the economy was booming and the stock market was high because (according to Trump) everyone was anticipating that Trump would be elected. But then when Trump takes office and the market plunges, it's because Trump inherited such a bad market footing from Biden. Irrespective of the freeform fantasy of why the market is doing what it's doing, you simply can't have the facts both ways. You can't tell me that Trump inherited a bad economy and a shaky market from Biden when Trump was trying to take credit for what everyone recognized was a good economy and market at the end of the Biden presidency. The market was either good or bad, not some political superposition of the two.

But now Tuberville is trying to tell us the market was too good under Biden and now needs to come down. I just can't with these people.
But we’ve always been at war with Euroasia!

Perhaps when Trump gets bored or fed up he'll simply declare he's fixed everything, that America is indeed great again and after a job well done he's stepping down in favour of Vance (assuming he hasn't annoyed him or that he doesn't break the system completely and declare a member of his family, Musk or some other unelected person POTUS). That is once he's assured he can't be convicted of anything.

what hopefully comes after Trump is a massive curtailing of Presidential Powers and immunities, a newfound appreciation for Democracy and some humility and sense of the limits of what reach and power government or big business/billionaires should have.
At the very least, Socialism should no longer be a dirty word.

Donald declaring a National Emergency on Electricity and increasing tariffs on Canada because "The only thing that makes sense is for Canada to become our cherished Fifty First State."

Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump

Based on Ontario, Canada, placing a 25% Tariff on "Electricity" coming into the United States, I have instructed my Secretary of Commerce to ad an ADDITIONAL 25% Tariff, to 50%, on all STEEL and ALUMINUM COMING INTO THE UNITED STATES FROM CANADA, ONE OF THE HIGHEST TARIFFING NATIONS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. This will go into effect TOMORROW MORNING, March 12th. Also, Canada must immediately drop their Anti-American Farmer Tariff of 250% to 390% on various U.S. dairy products, which has long been considered outrageous. I will shortly be declaring a National Emergency on Electricity within the threatened area. This will allow the U.S to quickly do what has to be done to alleviate this abusive threat from Canada. If other egregious, long time Tariffs are not likewise dropped by Canada, I will substantially increase, on April 2nd, the Tariffs on Cars coming into the U.S. which will, essentially, permanently shut down the automobile manufacturing business in Canada. Those cars can easily be made in the USA! Also, Canada pays very little for National Security, relying on the United States for military protection. We are subsidizing Canada to the tune of more than 200 Billion Dollars a year. WHY??? This cannot continue. The only thing that makes sense is for Canada to become our cherished Fifty First State. This would make all Tariffs, and everything else, totally disappear. Canadians taxes will be very substantially reduced, they will be more secure, militarily and otherwise, than ever before, there would no longer be a Northern Border problem, and the greatest and most powerful nation in the World will be bigger, better and stronger than ever - And Canada will be a big part of that. The artificial line of separation drawn many years ago will finally disappear, and we will have the safest and most beautiful Nation anywhere in the World - And your brilliant anthem, "O Canada," will continue to play, but now representing a GREAT and POWERFUL STATE within the greatest Nation that the World has ever seen!

ABC News reported, "A federal judge has blocked the removal of a Palestinian activist from the United States while weighing a petition challenging his arrest, court documents show. Mahmoud Khalil was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement at Columbia University over the weekend, despite having a green card, his attorney told ABC News, sparking an outcry from civil rights groups. His attorneys subsequently filed a habeas corpus petition challenging his arrest...ICE agents arrested Khalil -- a leader in the Manhattan university's encampment movement -- on Saturday night, claiming that his student visa had been revoked, his attorney, Amy Greer, said in a statement to ABC News." I may or may not agree with Mr. Khalil, but this detainment is highly dubious, as defense attorney Scott Greenfield discussed.

Deport the judge!

I don't see how that would help much, to be honest. Dump hopefully won't last four years, either due to dementia or just expiring from old age and too many hamberders, but you know Musk and Vance will be just as bad.

Maybe some of his cultists will snap out of it when Daddy Drumpf dies, and will start to look more critically at what's happening to America, but I've kinda lost hope of that. We don't just need to dump Dump, we need the Democrats or some other party back in office. Is that possible without violence? No clue, but I'm afraid it's not.
