I'm sure The POSOTUS will find a new strategy here -- do something to trash the stock market, buy stocks low, back out of whatever it was that started it, make money on stocks that bounce back. "Hey, it worked once... Let's do it again!"

El Salvador offers to lock up US criminals in its mega-jail

The deal was announced after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Salvadorean President Nayib Bukele during his visit to the central American nation.

Bukele said he had offered the US "the opportunity to outsource part of its prison system".
Rubio said the US was "profoundly grateful" to Bukele, adding that "no country's ever made an offer of friendship such as this".
Rubio told reporters: "He has offered to house in his jails dangerous American criminals in custody in our country, including those with US citizenship and legal residency."

In Trump world every conspiracy theory is "owning the libs." I'm kind of surprised there is not an executive order saving whales from wind turbines yet. And what about water? He has not turned off any rivers taking water to Mexico yet. Just the California thing.

Project 2025 (also known as the 2025 Presidential Transition Project) is a political initiative to reshape the federal government of the United States and remove checks on executive power in favor of right-wing policies. The plan was published in April 2023 by the American conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation in anticipation of Donald Trump winning the 2024 presidential election.

The ninth iteration of the Heritage Foundation's Mandate for Leadership series, Project 2025 asserts a controversial interpretation of the unitary executive theory according to which the entire executive branch is under the complete control of the president. To achieve its goals, the project calls for merit-based federal civil service workers to be replaced with people loyal to the president to take partisan control of key government agencies, like the Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Commerce (DOC), and Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Other agencies, like the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), would be dismantled, and the Department of Education (ED) abolished.

Once these measures are in place, the president would be free to implement the agenda, including reducing taxes on corporations and capital gains, instituting a flat income tax on individuals, cutting Medicare and Medicaid, and undoing "[al]most everything implemented" by the Biden administration. Other goals of the project include infusing government and society with conservative Christian values and rejecting abortion as health care. It calls for making the National Institutes of Health (NIH) less independent, stopping it from funding stem cell research, and reducing environmental regulations to favor fossil fuels. It proposes eliminating coverage of emergency contraception and prosecuting people who send and receive contraceptives and abortion pills. It proposes criminalizing pornography, removing legal protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, and terminating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs while having the DOJ prosecute anti-white racism instead. The project recommends the arrest, detention, and mass deportation of illegal immigrants living in the U.S. and deploying the military for domestic law enforcement.

Proponents of the project argue it would dismantle what they view as a vast, unaccountable, and mostly liberal governmental bureaucracy. Critics have characterized Project 2025 as an authoritarian, Christian nationalist plan that would steer the U.S. toward autocracy. Legal experts have said it would undermine the rule of law, separation of powers, separation of church and state, and civil liberties.

Shumer and Jeffries are the minority leaders in their respective Houses and have no power to issue subpoenas. They are relying upon the prospect that some Republicans will cross the aisle to vote to hold hearings and issue subpoenas.

They make mention of that, and I hope their confidence in getting those votes isn't too optimistic. They specifically mention that the budget negotiations that will shortly occur require Democrat support, and that Congressional Democrat leadership will use that to leverage more oversight over the executive.

The guns certainly are. A high proportion of the guns seized in crimes here are of US origin. Strict gun control laws only get you so far when you live right next door to a violent gun-loving free for all.
