Trump's Second Term

I understand that a lot of Republican congress members are fully bought into the MAGA project, the dismantling of government, the creation of a white supremacist nation and so on but AIUI there are also a lot of career politicians (McConnell, Rubio, Cruz and so on) whose career predates the MAGA movement and who profess to be driven by pragmatism rather than dogma.

Have these individuals had a Damascene moment and after decades of having one set of values have suddenly fully embraced an opposing set thanks to Trump's amazing powers of persuasion ?

Are they instead unwilling hostages to the MAGA movement in which case is there a line in the sand that would finally force them into some kind of action ?

Are they cynically thinking that they can gain control over what is happening, despite the evidence to the contrary ?

I cannot think that professional politicians who revel in the power that they have acquired and hold are happy about having that power taken away by a foreign neophyte even if the results are broadly in line with what they want.

The dollar has been gaining in value since Biden became president. And we all remember the huge drop during Trump 1.0.

Yup, the stupid maga weirdoes think they're smarter than "world-renowned" economist... bwahahahahaha

Donald Trump says he ordered military air strikes on a senior attack planner and others from the Islamic State (IS) group in Somalia.

"These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our Allies,"

America will be lucky to have any allies left after his tariffs experiment

I've added this to January 31 with a score of -1.

How much of that involves this claim by Stephan Miller is uncertain, incidentally -
"Well I'll give you an example," Miller retorted. "We looked at USAID as an example. Ninety-eight percent of the workforce donated to either Kamala Harris or another left-wing candidate."
I've added this to January 28 with a score of -1.

As of this writing, the current score is -49. That will change as I read through new posts on this thread.

Also, commondreams.org is a very rude site. I had to close TWO popups before I could read the article!

Leavitt didn't say anything about bird flu, which was why the chickens were killed.

Also:

it's all right, the Dems should use it against them and announce the chickens were in the country illegally.

Have we covered the trump revenge-O-rama continuing with the removal of General Mark Milley's security detail and clearance, as well as ordering a review of his rank?

To quote Yes, Minister "In defeat, malice. In victory, revenge"

i'm sure they'll find a way to rationalize how they were powerless to stop it. of course, that's not true. in a just world, these people would be held accountable just the same. but we don't live in a just world. the scammers have taken over.

... the shutting down of USAID and the corresponding loss in US soft power will definitely benefit China who have been actively been courting developing countries for a couple of decades now.
In a couple of generations this may be looked back on as a pivotal moment in America's decline and the rise of China, when the Trump administration gave up on engaging with the world, turned inwards and surrendered global influence to the Chinese.

I wish I was kidding.

-1: Trump again blasts Canada for a trade deficit and suggests it becomes the 51st state [11]
-1: Musk calls USAID a criminal organization, "a viper’s nest of radical-left Marxists who hate America."
-1: Trump on the Panama Canal: "We're gonna take it back, or something very powerful is going to happen."
-1: Trump talking to reporters: "Canada has been very abusive of the United States."
-1: Trump on USAID: "It's been run by a bunch of radical lunatics, and we're getting them out."

Footnote 11. Trump: "We pay hundreds of Billions of Dollars to SUBSIDIZE Canada. Why? There is no reason. We don't need anything they have. We have unlimited Energy, should make our own Cars, and have more Lumber than we can ever use. Without this massive subsidy, Canada ceases to exist as a viable Country. Harsh but true! Therefore, Canada should become our Cherished 51st State. Much lower taxes, and far better military protection for the people of Canada AND NO TARIFFS!"

Current score is -54.

There was indeed some palnning in Trump attacking Deep State for a week:

Over the last nine days, the house has been out of session while the Democracy is sold for parts.Would have been nice had they come back on their own and sued, yelled, stood up, etc. Anything but stayed home.

Why is it only Democrats are being criticized!!! This is an AMERICAN issue!!! The illegal means of getting MILLIONS of Americans’ personal information and transferring it to a hard drive of a civilian should be alarming to EVERYONE. Musk isn’t only getting Democrats’ information but also Republicans. WHERE ARE OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS AND WHY AREN’T THEY SCREAMING AND FILING INJUNCTIONS? Where has the spirit gone to protect ALL Americans!!!

Well, aussie, the elected officials pass laws. The day to day goverment does not report to Congress the way it reports to parliaments and other EU country houses of representatives.

Adam Kinzinger has been very active on threads in the last month at least and his posts get a lot of views and likes.
Makes me think he's long-gaming for some point in the future, which I'm ok with.

He's also threatening the the UK with tariffs.

The Verge reported, "The National Transportation Safety Board will only update the press about the plane crashes in Washington, DC and Philadelphia on X — not over email, as reported earlier by The Desk. The agency announced on Saturday that it will use its @NTSB_Newsroom account to share ”news conferences or other investigative information.“"

This seems to be one of a series of changes involving media. "At the same time, the US Department of Defense is also removing major outlets, like NBC News, The New York Times, NPR, and Politico, from their dedicated workstations in the Pentagon, according to a report from NBC."

I´ve been thinking the same thing. Trump´s actions are so transparently traitorous that I don´t understand how supposedly patriotic Americans support him.

America will be lucky to have any allies left after his tariffs experiment
Some, perhaps many, countries will be compelled to submit to his bullying and so will still nominally be allies.
I appreciate other countries have much bigger headaches to deal with due to the orange bully, but regarding the UK does anyone know, when Trump said the UK had been "out of line" just WTF he was talking about? It's a genuine mystery to me.
Possibly not being sufficiently effusive in their praise for him. Maybe some perceived slight over windmills and his golf course. Who can tell when you're dealing with the world's most powerful toddler.

If you export more to the USA than you import from the USA, you are being subsidised by the USA and that is terrible.
