Trump's Second Term

A little more detail on NIH
Confusion and anxiety is rippling through the US health-research community this week following Donald Trump taking office as the 47th US president. His administration has abruptly cancelled research-grant reviews, travel and trainings for scientists inside and outside the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the world’s largest public biomedical funder. Adding to the worry: the Trump team appears to have deleted entire webpages about diversity programmes and diversity-related grants from the agency’s site.

The cancelling of meetings and travel is part of a pause in external communications issued on 21 January by the NIH’s parent organization, the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Researchers who spoke to Nature say that although a short, daylong pause in communications at US agencies has occurred in the past when new administrations have started, to reorient strategy, the reach and length of the Trump team’s — it is set to last until at least 1 February — is unprecedented.

What has Trump achieved so far. Chaos. That's it. Utter Chaos. The Lord of the Flies.
This, And CHaos was not what the swing voters voted for. You might argue..and I would agree..they were stupid for thinking they would get anything else but they are not above redemption the way the hard core cultist are.

I'm betting even considerate conservatives are regretting their choice mightily. Whole prides of leopards at their doors.

I'll believe it when they actually say it, not when they whine about things they actually voted for (but blame on anything but Trump).

So far, I've seen nothing but an incredible amount of excuse-making from the conservatives here that we know were Trumpers.

Trump tallking about abolishing FEMA.
I suspect this is one of those things that Trump says and never follows through on.

i think he seems pretty hell bent on punishing newsome and california by disrupting fema until they apologize

Keep in mind this is not Trump talking, but his equally nefarious and far less clueless handlers. The point of dismantling FEMA is that as an executive agency, FEMA must apply federal funds generally without discretion and generally according to rules that don't discriminate between wealthy, prepared states and poor, unprepared states. With FEMA out of the way, a Republican Congress can exercise discretion in dispensing federal disaster relief funds, preferring states who acquiesce to Republication policy preferences and punishing states like California for exercising their own will.

In which case why bother contributing CA taxes to federal coffers. Sounds like the feds want nothing out of CA.

Perhaps it should be Trump apologising when the money runs out. But it will be freezing day in hell before he does that.

If CA doesn't provide taxes, then...what money is that they will unfairly distribute?

Now the talk is about overhauling FEMA....
