General UK politics VIII - The Last Tory

Elon cannot legally give, donate or loan funds to a UK political party, per the electoral commision:

Tesla Motors Limited could, as that is "a UK-registered company which is incorporated in the UK and carries on business in the UK".
Tesla Motors Limited is 75% owned by Tesla Inc., of which Musk is CEO and the largest shareholder (around 22%).

So Musk himself cannot donate or loan money to Reform UK Ltd. A controlled by a company Musk controls could.

Farage, being the dummy he is, keeps honking about how much Elon supports Reform, not that Tesla Motors Ltd. supports Reform UK Ltd.

How much money does Tesla Motors Ltd. have available to gift/loan to political parties?

ETA: also, he (Noel) can't get round this by donating to/setting up a PAC, as we don't have those.
Galaxy Brain is probably ordering Fromage to keep honking about his "donations". Man is also too stupid to know UK electoral law and too publicity hungry to keep schtum when he needs to.

Just because it's illegal, doesn't mean it isn't going to happen and that he's not going to get away with it.

It's not the first time Elon's got bent out of shape at UK authorities suggesting UK laws might apply to things that happen in UK jurisdiction, so I expect he'll keep bragging about how he intends to ignore UK rules on donations to political parties but I doubt he'll actually do it.

So next time his private jet lands in London, a bunch of plods and a van will be waiting for him. He might even get a private tour of a police station and a jail cell, and a British court room.

The collective noun is "plod," as in "plod and a van will be waiting"
'Plod' is the plural of 'Plod' (it's one of those weird ones, like 'sheep'). The collective nouns are various, depending on context.

Examples include 'disarray', 'panic', 'calming presence', 'gang', 'bullying', 'de-escalation', 'escalation', 'arrogance', 'lawlessness', 'conspiracy', 'force', 'unwillingness', 'phalanx', & many more.

Just like when he was on the EU Fisheries committee, he never attended. All the reform MPs skipped the recent debate on fishing in the House.

Also today he says

We now live in a country where you can assault a Member of Parliament and not go to prison.

The latest example of two-tier justice

This is over his milk shake thrower getting a none custodial sentence.

^Nige's grasp on time is as shaky as that on most topics: he wasn't an MP when he was "assaulted" with a milkshake. IIRC she didn't even throw the cup at him.

ETA Ninja'd by Don...

Regarding the railways, the means of privatisation, especially splitting out the train ownership and infrastructure ownership was mostly targeted at making it as difficult as possible to re-nationalise rather than making the railways more efficient.

Any immediate benefits were down to a huge increase in subsidy (which in the first couple of years wasn't immediately passed on to shareholders, though they learned to do that quickly) rather than privatisation working.
It is worth remembering that part of the UK has a 'nationalised' rail system.
Essentially the franchise holder - Scotrail - is a publicly owned body. Services are not noticeably better in Scotland than England.

Lucky no-one stirred up the kind of violence that would have seen him trapped in a hotel while rioters tried to set it on fire, that would have been far more frightening than being assaulted with a dairy based beverage.
Milkshake is pretty scary if you're a snowflake.
