Trump's Second Term

Do you think it's just a coincidence that these two men are the father in laws of Ivanka and Tiffany?
First Patel to head the FBI and now Tiffany and Ivanka's fathers-in-law. We knew this second term was going to be bad but thinking that and experiencing it are very different.

Our national nightmare just goes on and on. :(

Trump continues to prove he's unfit for the office with his appointments and nominees: unqualified sycophants, relatives, and nutcases. The next four years are going to be god awful.

Medvedev says that if Donald Trump tries to stop Russian aggression against Ukraine, he "could be the new John F. Kennedy,"

Kushne served 14 months in federal prison after a 2005 conviction for tax evasion, illegal campaign contributions, and witness tampering.
He was pardoned by Trump in 2020.

Does Kushner speak French? Has he ever been to France? Does France allow convicted felons in to the country?

It's highly unlikely that the damage that Trump does will disappear as soon as he leaves office. I think that life for many Americans will be diminished for years afterwards, especially if the next president is a Republican.

Trump appoints Tiffany Trump's father-in-law to be his Senior Advisor to the President on Arab and Middle Eastern affairs.

...his father-in-law was a key funder of the Free Patriotic Movement, a Christian party aligned with Hezbollah.

Boulos is a friend of Suleiman Frangieh, a Christian ally of Hezbollah and its candidate for Lebanon's presidency.

ETA: Huh. I expected the forum to preview the site. Here's a tl;dr:

Trump Will Overplay His Hand. Here’s How to Be Ready.

1. Don’t Panic — Autocracy Takes TimeAmerica will not turn into a dictatorship overnight — or in four years. Even the most determined strongmen face internal hurdles, from the bureaucracy to the media and the courts. It took Erdoğan well over a decade to fully consolidate his power. Hungary’s Viktor Orbán and Poland’s Law and Justice Party needed years to erode democratic norms and fortify their grip on state institutions.

2. Don’t Disengage — Stay ConnectedThe answer to political defeat is not to disconnect, but to organize. You can take a couple of days or weeks off, commiserate with friends and mute Elon Musk on X — or erase the app altogether. But in the end, the best way to develop emotional resilience is greater engagement.

3. Don’t Fear the InfightingIn Turkey, Hungary and Poland, it was only after the opposition parties faced their strategic and ideological misalignment with society that they were able to begin to effectively fight back.

4. Charismatic Leadership Is a Non-NegotiableYou will lose if you don’t find a captivating leader, as was the case in 2023 general elections in Turkey and in 2022 in Hungary.

5. Skip the Protests and Identity PoliticsFor the longest time in Turkey, the opposition made the mistake of relying too much on holding street demonstrations and promoting secularism, Turkey’s version of identity politics, which speaks to the urban professional and middle class but not beyond. When Erdoğan finally lost his absolute predominance in Turkish politics in 2024, it was largely because of his mismanagement of the economy and the opposition’s growing competence in that area.

6. Have HopeIn a country with a strong, decentralized system of government and with a long-standing tradition of free speech, the rule of law should be far more resilient than anywhere in the world.

To Trumpy and MAGA, they are all Muslim brown people. He doesn't give a ◊◊◊◊.

In fact, I'm sure I've seen screenshots from Trooth Social from Trump with White House "letterhead".

I don't think he's even waiting to make it official. Like everything, he just goes ahead and does it, and thinks knows the repercussions will never catch up with him.
FTFY

I did not look for a related thread, but we should get one going on the control of Trump in 2025. The whole idea from Democrats and experts (think MSNBC) is that we have to allow Trump since some 50% wanted him. It's democracy! Even if they are low information voters and people who hate all government.

The goal is to prevent him as much as possible. Prove that democracy works even here, and that by 2026 we will have this under control. Isn't this a bit of an expensive experiment? The failures in our constitution are obvious. If the president has the house and senate and the supreme court, there are only the states and lower federal courts to hold him back.

It bothers me that the 250th Birthday of our currently Great nation is going to occur during this ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊'s second term. (July 4, 2026) But I take solace in the fact that I don't think he'll actually still be in office at the time. Or even alive.

My guess is that he will be in some condition, probably bedridden in Mar a Lago, bu 2026. So it will look very weak for them in the 2026 election. He will not hand over to Vance. Trump has to die for Vance to be president.

Sometimes the best way to stop people making the same mistake over and over again is to let them experience the full consequences of making it at least once.
I agree, but I fear the effect only lasts a couple of years …
