William Hague on Prescott

John Prescott was one of the great figures of our political era—passionate, loyal, and full of life. I will never forget our many lively exchanges across the despatch box. John was a formidable debater, unflinching in his commitment to his values, and he had a unique ability to speak directly to the concerns of the people he represented.

It was a point of pride for both of us that we hailed from Rotherham; although it shaped us in different ways, we shared a certain bluntness in our exchanges—though in true Yorkshire fashion, John usually got straight to the point faster than I did!

John’s legacy as a voice for working people and a relentless advocate for Labour will endure. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this very sad time.

Ah well

The rioter who became a meme for posturing in front of the police before getting hit in the groin by a brick off a riot shield is facing jail

ETA it was a brick to the head from the riot shield and direct hit in the groin from his friends when he was stumbling back (video in link)

Even funnier then the woman who set a bin on fire, ran it at the police and slipped and fell in it! It was like "MAD Presents: The Lighter Side of.. Rioting"

It's very hard to take that seriously. Fine, if you didn't like Prescott for whatever thing he did you take as a betrayal of his working class roots, failing to support the Liverpol dockers strike or whatever it was, but claiming he'd now be one of the reactionary bigots to the right of the Tories is just daft.
Soon as Two Jags got a lick of the leather from the ministerial Mercs he dropped any previous pretence of being for the working class.

Everyone is telling me that 'Westminster Insiders' are saying the Chancellor is going to resign next week because her budget is such a disaster and she has tanked the economy.

Nobody seems to know who these 'Westminster Insiders' are but they are certain it's happening and it will force Starmer to step down as well.

Again are they telling you or is it something you've read somewhere, and by somewhere I mean other than the cesspool that is Twitter.

I've seen it from multiple accounts on twitter

It's curious that these 'insiders' know she'll resign because she's tanked the economy, despite the lack of blaring headlines reporting that she's tanked the economy.

I can remember waaay back to the days of two prime ministers ago when the budget really did threaten to tank the economy and, as I remember late 2022, almost everyone was really very obviously alarmed about what just happened to the economy. What we're getting now looks like a bit of grumbling, not the sky falling.

Ah, I love the feeling of schadenfreude in the morning!

You’ll remember that no one ever questioned or protested any part of budgets over the last 14 years of Tory budgets… I was reading some folk complaining about changes to the VED, it was terrible, stalinist policy, had to tell them those changes were put in place by the previous chancellor.

John Prescott: had the gift of connecting with members of the public.
