Cont: Luton Airport Car Park Fire IV

Here’s a fable.

In a country farm is a pen for turkeys. One day one of the turkeys becomes curious after seeing some bigger turkeys vanish just before Christmas.

Curious Turkey: I say, chaps, what is this Christmas thing?

Turkey 1: You’re mad you are. There is no such thing as Christmas. It’s just a conspiracy theory by jumped up birds who think they are clever. ******* moron!

Curious Turkey: But wait! Why shouldn’t we know and why shouldn’t we discuss Christmas?

Turkeys 2, 3 & 4: Why? Why do you want to know?

Curious Turkey: But why shouldn’t we know?

Turkeys: It’s not confidential or classified you know it’s just the way it is for us guys. Ours not to reason why.

Curious Turkey: Well, I’d rather know what this Christmas thing is. Any objections?

Turkeys: We don’t want any clever dicks here!

<fx crowd of turkeys viciously and mercilessly pecks Curious Turkey to death; struts off>

Turkeys: ******* bastard! Who does he think he is? Never liked him anyway.

Turkey 1: Yeah, his wattle was so much bigger than mine. That brought him down a peg!

Turkey 2, 3 & 4: What a cockwomble. He should’ve listened to the Alpha Turkey who did tell him to shut it.

Come Christmas, what is the moral of this story?

As Jay has repeatedly said, no, you are not the smartest person in the room.

Prove it. :D

Well, yer man had such a thick rural Cork accent that I thought he was speaking Gaelic and could not make out what on earth he was saying, so he could well have said what I claimed.

My boss's eldest son who observed the whole thing, but did not intervene, was highly amused as he knew I hadn't a clue.

Just to drag this back to fires: the day I arrived down there, I was sitting in the harbourside bar in Baltimore, waiting for the ferry, chatting to the bar man (I was the only customer), who told me that an Englishman's yacht had been torched the week before. On spotting my (quite English) face drop, he said that it wasn't because he was English, but that he was a total

That it's better to waste your time constructing convoluted strawmen, rather than admit you were wrong? I dunno. You tell me. What moral were you thinking of when you wrote this pile of self-serving, ego-massaging drivel?

That there's an old turkey law which provided for 'fighting talk' to be an acceptable defence for pecking the crap out of someone.

It's a fabular summing up of the debate in this thread.

No, it isn't. It is as I said: convoluted strawmen serving as self-serving, ego-massaging drivel. Not one person here has an attitude as depicted in your silly fable. You just can't accept that this thread is page after page after page of you being wrong.

Come Christmas, what is the moral of this story?

You're not the smartest person in the room.

You don't have some magic insight or foresight that everyone else lacks. You don't even have normal insight. Your conspiracy theories are based on your professions or insinuations of competence in fields you clearly know nothing about. You cannot display basic competence even in fields such as finance and corporate governance in which you have expressly claimed not only professional experience but also eminence. You just make stuff up with the evident intent to look smart. And when that doesn't work, you just straight-up lie.

It's not about finding out what happened at Luton. It's about prancing your ego about. You really want people to accept you as Curious Turkey.

Here's a fable.

In a country farm is a pen for turkeys. None of the turkeys become curious after seeing some bigger turkeys vanish just before Christmas, because rearing turkeys takes less than a year.

Shortly before Christmas, a lorry is seen reversing towards the pen. The turkeys are concerned about what this might mean.

Curious Turkey reports that some of the turkeys posting in the comments section of the Daily Mail website have been speculating that the lorry may be powered by battery chickens who will invade their pen. When the lorry is inspected by a turkey who, being outside the pen, is able to get close to it, he reports that it appears to be a diesel-powered lorry.

CT says that it looks like a chicken-powered lorry, and that some of the turkeys posting about it on the Mail website claim to be used chicken dealers, so must be experts.

Outside Turkey points out that the lorry is producing diesel fumes. CT says they are fumes produced by chickens. OT points out that CT is too far away to be able to smell them. Curious Turkey says that they look like chicken farts, and asks what the make and model of the lorry are. OT says, "how the **** should I know, I'm a turkey."

CT claims that the make and model are being hushed up by Big Farmer because he has investments he doesn't know about in battery chickens. OT says that this is clearly nonsense, and the important issue is what the lorry is there for. He will investigate this and report back. Meanwhile, he has confirmed that the lorry is diesel powered, and not fitted with any form of chicken power, whether from batteries or otherwise.

CT says that this statement has actually been made by Jenny From Communications Turkey, who is just repeating what has been said earlier while pretending to be OT. OT points out that everyone saw him making the statement. CT claims that OT, along with JFCT and every other turkey outside the pen, is in on Big Farmer's plot to cover up the make and model of the lorry.

Realising from this that CT is a genius, all the other turkeys in the pen start clamouring for the make and model of the lorry.

While they are doing this, Big Farmer rounds them all up, herds them into the lorry, and sends them off for slaughter.

Come Christmas, what is the moral of this story?

That if you listen to Conspiracy Turkey you'll get stuffed?

Yeah I realized that upon subsequent reading—the hazards of composing a post over a long time in several sessions. However, to further nitpick: confidential is not a classification, but CONFIDENTIAL is. But of course those are just the marking conventions. The point remains valid.

Continuing nitpick: Materials don't have to be marked; some things are "born classified." (That's how Hillary Clinton got into trouble.) For example, despite not having a security clearance, I have some drawings on my laptop that are technically classified "confidential," because I designed the ground power/communication/tool connector pit for the F-35 (which was quickly copied by one of our competitors), the fuel/defuel pit for the VC-25B (the new "Air Force One"), and several other items that are in use by or are likely to be in use soon by the US military. (Note to Russian and Chinese spies: Anything you could find out by stealing my laptop could be learned more easily by reading back issues of Aviation Week & Space Technology.)

If I really wanted to go to the trouble, I could probably get most or all of this stuff declassified, but I'd probably just end up annoying the people I'd have to bother to do it.
