"Misgendering" is now a federal offense

It may take federal money, but does that mean that it cannot promulgate rules of its own that do not actually contradict Federal law? If the law says you must do this, does it mean always that you may not also do more? This is still a private college, with its own admissions and hiring policies, its own curriculum, its own administrative system, dormitory rules, and so on.

Absolutely. And they must not, with no exceptions, violate anything abbreviated with a 1A. Not allowing ridicule of a power packed politically pushed policy is going to raise a constitutional eyebrow.

Again, that you can't harass/intimidate people by misgendering, fine. That's a case of your speech rights becoming basically hate speech, or can be, anyway. But being silenced on condemning/ridiculing it? OK, that can easily be a fig leaf for further harassing individuals. But globally? I feel like that's too close to the line.

I think the whole pronoun thing is silly, but given that the ones screaming about it in this thread have obviious "issues" about women in politics in general.....

Interesting thing about Holyoke: it's admission is restricted to "female, transgender, and nonbinary students". So if a bio male applies, saying he's non-binary...?

It is amazing how the trans movement destroys once female-only spaces. I wonder how Holyoke's dorm and shower policy work with this. Would you send your daugter there?

**** yes I would. I'd rather send her there than wherever you learned to treat people.

To apply is not to get in. More than half of those who apply do not. I suspect, though I certainly don't know for sure, but suspect, that issues of a bio male applying would be subject to some scrutiny to avoid the issues so feared by some, and further suspect, though I don't know for sure, that violations of fellow students by males who turn out to be more binary than they represented would be subject to internal discipline. It's a private college. If you don't like them you shouldn't go. If you break their rules hard enough they'll throw you out.

I would think forcing people to take part in a lie - that a person can change their sex - is pretty egregious. Freedom of conscience be damned. That's some Soviet crap.

Which has what to do with using someone's name, how can be using someone's name to refer to them be a lie?

Ah yes, the aggressors are the true victims! Harumph, harumph, harumph!

Calling people by their name, whatever preferred name that is, doesn't involve any of the crybaby bull **** you spouted here. It's just calling them by their name. That's it. You don't even have to mention their gender, or their sexuality at all. Anyone can change their name when they want, so again, call people by their ******* name and drop it. Why is that so hard for you? Because you can't play the victim while doing it? Your feelings don't get hurt enough?
You have missed the many cases where this causes real harm.
The boner case was some other campus, but it did real world harm to the females who did not want the male with an erection in their sorority. Needless to say the boner won the day because that is the Obama/Biden/Harris protocol.

"University of Wyoming sorority sisters say they were 'blindsided' when biologically male transgender student was allowed to join and they were told to 'change our definition of woman' when they raised safety concerns"

Yes, where you learn ******** like that.

You don't even have to go to university for that. Trans identified men are quite open about getting euphoria boners when their paraphila is "affirmed." Much better to offend a man by calling him a man than arouse him by calling him a woman.

>Daughter, have you met your dormmate at Holyoke?
>He's . . . she's kinda different.

Yeah, and wherever you learned that utter filth is a place that I want my kids to be nowhere near.

Has "majesty" or the heretofore nonexistent "magesty" been slid through the back door to pronoun-hood behind our backs? New pronouns invented in secret? Those sneaky grammatoclastic perverts, not only coming after your private parts but the parts of your very speech! Gird what loins you have left, grab your pitchforks, sheeple, before its too late!

Oops, I spelled it wrong. It has long been a special pronoun for royalty though, hasn't it? I don't use it myself, but those who go in for such things do. "highness" is another one, or "your honor (his honor)" for people like judges or mayors.

Maybe the rules of grammar have changed and I'm behind the times but just calling something a pronoun doesn't, as far as I know, make it one. A pronoun may indicate identity but identity is not a pronoun itself. I realize some people have spuriously claimed such things as pronouns, but I don't think they are. A descriptive adjective or apposite noun that becomes a title does not, as far as I know, just morph into a pronoun. You can use the title as a substitute for the name of the person holding it, but "majesty" is no more a pronoun, at least as I understand it, than "generalissimo" or "the magnificent" or "fearless leader" or "demigod." You never refer to a judge as "honor" alone. The judge is his honor or her honor.

When his majesty goes to bed he takes off his shoes. Majesty is not the pronoun here.

I've done that "FTFY" because that is all that this topic is about - you aren't allowed to harass people.

Because some people need everything spelt out explicitly examples of how the harassment might occur are codified. That is why a professor would not be allowed to get away with referring to all the people he perceives to be male and black as "boy". Of course, the "victims" of such anti-harassment codification (i.e. those that want to harass people) would put it as "You can't even use the word boy now!!" or "Professor sacked because they used the word 'boy'"
