Kamala Harris Election Campaign

I think you don;t.
What I meant was that government cannot make you a more compassionate person, cannot make you cease to be a racist. All it can do is tell you if you do X, you will go to jail.
Martin Luther King put it beautifully when he said that "the Law cannot make you if you are bigot, love me; but it can punish you if you kill me".
Look, let's drop this. I will take responsibility for stirring this pot, but it's getting off-topic.

So, how about that campaign ad that uses a famously iconic Aussie song, eh?

I also don't get why making somebody who takes no interest in politics, does not follow the news, and has no idea of the issues they are voting on vote is such a great idea anyway. We have too many ignorant people showing up to vote as it is.

I agree. Democracy depends on voters taking the time to properly inform themselves about the people and issues they are voting for. If they can't be bothered to do that their ignorance can be exploited by those willing to tell them whatever lies pander to their prejudices, which is when democracy fails. We have seen several examples of such failures in the last few years (e.g. Brexit, Trump).

If someone doesn't have the time or inclination to educate themselves, the responsible thing to do is leave the decisions to those that do.

The last thing I'll say on this subject is that once again I am amazed at the vigour with which Americans will defend their right to not give a ****.

Americans don't much like being told what to do by the government. It's just part of our national mentality. Even simply wearing a mask to help save lives got millions of Americans' ire up and they refused to do it. Making it compulsory to vote would have the same effect. It may work elsewhere, but it's not going to work here. I always vote, but I don't want to be told I HAVE to. Turning in a blank ballot or writing in 'Mickey Mouse' isn't going to change that resentment.

Pluss it would make it harder to disenfranchise the right kind of darkies. That is right out in modern american politics.

What would really screw the GOP is if they actually do try to impose some kind of authoratarian government on the US. They would fail, and it would wreck the party for good.

Bull, trying to overturn the election did nothing to wreck the party or does that not count for some reason. They are simply to popular for consequences like that to come into effect.

You're right, it's strange to me as well. The posts also scream of a toddler refusing to do something just because they're told to and honestly now that I typed that out it sums up America very succinctly.

The few things I thought when you mentioned it weren't that "ignorant people could vote", it's that ignorant people might have a desire to learn. The ballot in the mail might trigger them to look up some platforms of politicians, or read up on local measures, etc. I didn't quite have the "DON'T TREAD ON ME" mindset, but I understand how many Americans would. We've been told our whole lives that the reason America is ******* awesome and the whole world has a boner for us and everyone totally wants to be here is because we're rebels from the government! It's all wrong, and really stupid, but as stacy said, it's baked into us.

So, I used care a lot about this. But now I'm meh, as long as there is an option for abstain/none of the above. But, I see no evidence that Australians are especially more informed about politics than Americans. No offense Ozzies, I don't think you are less informed either. I just don't think that forced voting will result in a more informed or interested electorate or even population. It will almost certainly do the opposite for the electorate anyway. I basically just don't see any value in it and the down side is you are forcing folks to do something they don't want to. So, downside with no demonstrated upside, a lot like daylight savings.

Might be the most fundamental right.

I admit it's a tough choice. The career criminal, or the career criminal protected by the political establishment. As long as insider trading is legal for Congress, I make no distinction between Trump and his peers in high elected office in this country.

Also you hate me, and think I'm too stupid to have a vote, and if you had your way I wouldn't. So I feel no special urge to elect your favorite corruptocrat just because they're your favorite.

? Stories are coming out that Kamala Harris has long been an index investor.

What crimes has Harris committed?

(other than not being black enough).

Prestige's argument is not only false. It's an attempt at whataboutism.

There are watchdog groups on ethics in politics. They do their best to expose ethical issues and conflicts of interests. Common Cause and CREW, are the first two that come to mind.

Kamala Harris doesn't appear to have any significant conflicts of interests or ethical issues. I can point to such concerns with Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, Bill and Hillary and others on both sides of the aisle. And the fact that after a term as Senator and one as VP and we haven't heard a whiff of scandal says a lot. Because I guarantee the political opposition is looking for anything they can use.

Loved that Harris Georgia speech and especially the Southern accent! "We won in twenty-twenty and we gone win again in twenty-twenty fowah!"

Whole lot of melanin deficient Black history experts on the internet today.
