Because they don't want to be right or make sense.

They want to be wrong and illogical and still win.

It's a flex. "I can do anything I want and you can't stop me. I don't care if I lose in court because my followers will just burn the courthouse down and lynch the jurors."

Them being this wrong in this specific "You can't not notice it" way is a feature, not a bug.

Same reason we have Republican elected officials in Congress that claim Biden stole the election from Trump when they were voted into office on the exact same ballots, handled by the exact same people, using the exact same process, voted in by the exact same voters.

The post-fact world is more and more going into full on dream logic reality denial where things not only don't have to be factually correct but aren't even required to have any form of internal logic or coherence.

The Republic Party and Demographic is 100% flexing on us trying to see just how wronger than not even wrong then can be before it bites them in the ass.

It's an interesting experiment, how much fantasist thinking can a political party pile on before it collapses? Is there a limit? In religion, the survival of the Catholic Church suggests a stratospherically high capacity, but maybe they're too dissimilar to compare.

You guys are all missing something. This has happened at different times and in different countries before. Not to mention this is incredibly Orwellian.

Alternative facts is not new either, I give you the religious and evolution deniers. It is practically a platform of the Republican party. Did you watch the Republican debates?

This scares the crap out of me. I feel like everything I theorized in a term paper I wrote in college 45 years ago is close to coming true. I suggested that fascism and dictatorship could happen in the United States. How institutions would have to break down. At the time I never really believed it could happen. It was an exercise.

I said that our biggest protection was the press. But this was before Fox News and the internet.

The parallels between 1932 Germany and the US today a lot closer than I'm comfortable with.

Well yeah...

This is absolutely NOT new. It's what Woo Slingers have been doing for years. I'm half expected to hear Trump claim he can use Bayesian Statistics to prove he's really immortal.

We let the internet hone trolling anti-intellectualism to almost psychological warfare levels of perfection while we patted ourselves on the back about how good we are at ignoring them and now it's escaped out of the internet and out of the niche communities and we are in a world where facts simply don't matter and no I have zero plans to get over that anytime soon.

Frankly, I think Biden made a huge mistake choosing Merrick Garland as Attorney General. And regardless of who he chose, that person had to pick a special investigator on day one. Day two at the latest. Someone with subpoena power. The fact that Trump wasn't indicted within 6 months was a huge mistake.

Garland was picked by Obama because he was so nonthreatening to Republicans.

Biden's logic, as well as HRC's before, was to keep Trump going for as long as possible, because that makes for easy campaigning and fundraising.

“What happens between now and sentencing?

“Trump will remain out of prison until his sentencing hearing; prosecutors did not ask him to post a bond. But both parties, the prosecutors and the defense, have until June 13 to file pre-sentencing motions, which are memos detailing what they think the punishment should be. Trump will also meet with a probation officer for a pre-sentencing report.“

The “Jack Smith” parody account on Xitter has posted a picture and named a black woman as Trump’s probation officer.

I don’t think it’s helpful doxxing her, if indeed it’s true.

If any Democratic party leaders thought this before 2016, I have a hard time thinking they still thought so afterwards.

After the strategy already fell catastrophically on its face, I don't see it being dragged out again.

That strategy was predicated on two things: Republican supporters being smart enough and shamed enough by Trump to turn away from him, and Trump being shamed enough to dial it back and give the advantage to the Democrat candidate. Neither of those things happened. In fact, they went completely opposite.

Shame? Oh that's adorable. Republicans don't feel shame. This is the guy who grabs women by the pussy and lies non-stop.
