Criminal Charges Against Trump / Trump Indicted / Hush Money Part III

I'm a little surprised that no one on my Facebook feed has even mentioned the trial (except one, in passing). But then, I've already blocked the couple rabid MAGArats that would likely have something (stupid) to say about it. I had to resist even putting just a large "YES!!!" on there as I like to keep my feed politics-free.

Same reason we're only getting glib drive by snark from them here. They haven't been told what to think yet.

Ah, you're inferring a symmetry that they're not implying. It's not that each party is unfair to the other, it's that Democrats are Bad.

See, Democrat DAs would go easy on Democrat politicians; only Republican DAs could be trusted to fairly go after Democrat politicians. Similarly, only Republican DAs should prosecute Republican politicians because a Democrat DA would cheat to get a conviction.

It's similar to the idea that Judge Merchan can't be fair to Trump because his daughter has done some work for Democrats, while the fact that Judge Cannon was actually appointed by Trump should not lead one to question her fairness. Merchan's family is contaminated with Democration, while Cannon reeks of wholesome Republicanity.

(I know people who really truly think like this)
You're - sob - right.

Consider yourself lucky. I'm inundated with upside down flags and declarations of, "I've never been more MAGA!".
Seriously, you buffoons couldn't have been any more MAGA unless you gained a hundred pounds overnight.

Looks like Trump's latest excuse for not having testified is that he would have been charged with perjury if he had. It's like he lives in a completely different world than, well, the rest of the world. "The trial was so rigged they wouldn't let me lie under oath."

That probably is what his lawyers told him.

Trump: I want to testify. I already told everybody I would. I can explain everything.

Lawyers: No way. If you testify you are going to get charged with perjury.

He doesn't understand that the reason his lawyers told him that he would be charged with perjury is not because he testified but because he would absolutely lie under oath because he is a lying liar who can't stop lying.

Poor Donnie. He can't commit perjury without getting charged with perjury. He can't rape someone without getting sued. He can't defame his rape victim without getting hit with a multi-million dollar judgement. He can't run a fraudulent charity without it getting shut down. He run a fake university without paying a settlement. He can't collude with Russia during a campaign without getting impeached. He can't commit massive business fraud without having to pay back the illicit money. He can't steal top secret government documents and store them in his basement without getting raided. He can't attempt to overthrow democracy in America with lies, fake electors, and a terrorist attack on Congress at the United States Capitol without getting criminal charges.

So unfair. What is the poor guy supposed to do?

Yes he can and I'm sure his legal team will put forward many reasons why including:

-The gag order and his ability to testify
- Stormy Daniels talking about their sexual relationship
- The judge admonishing Costello
- The judge's jury instructions
- Procedural issues that prevented them presenting exculpatory evidence
- The political motivation for the trial

Even if none of them have any merit, they'll use up time and delay (possibly indefinitely) any consequences for President Trump.
Again with the “President.”

I know “convicted felon” Trump means typing more letter. But c’mon, try it, it’s fun!

I blame SOME (some, I said some) of this around very specific parts of the mythology of the concept of a "fair trail."

Yes everyone deserves a fair trail this should not be controversial. But "right to a fair trail" can't be expanded to "The courts have to find a way to make me not make myself look bad."

Obvious guilt DOES exist. As long as no party is lying if the reality of the situation is obvious guilt... that's not a problem to be solved.

Things like the right to not self incriminate do have a place, but I bristle when it turns into "My client can't get a fair trial unless he gets to argue that fire isn't hot."

Denied. The gag order did not change the outcome of the trial.
And Trump was never prohibited from testifying.
- Stormy Daniels talking about their sexual relationship
Denied. Trump's lawyers didn't object when it was happening.
- The judge admonishing Costello
Denied: The judge did not admonish him in front of the jury.
- The judge's jury instructions
- Procedural issues that prevented them presenting exculpatory evidence
- The political motivation for the trial

Even if none of them have any merit, they'll use up time and delay (possibly indefinitely) any consequences for President Convicted Felon and Indicted Criminal Defendant Trump. FTFY
True, but that was to be expected.

I'm originally from Oklahoma, and this has popped up a couple of times on my feed from some of the common clay of the new West back home. Yeah, not cultish at all!

But, AC...that means nothing as he hasn't faced any consequences!
It's up to us to make sure he faces consequences. He is now a convicted criminal. But so was Hitler. And he was elected as Germany's leader. And look what he did to Germany and the world.

People need to understand that this is serious. Trump is not going to give up. And if he ever becomes President again he will be a bully. He will destroy democracy in the United States.

Every word I said is true. It's not hyperbole. It's not an exaggeration.

Trump deserves to go to prison. But probably not over this. There's a part of me that doesn't care what Trump goes to prison for. But it does matter. But before they get outraged at Trump potentially going to prison over this they should recall that Michael Cohen spent two years in prison for this. And Cohen spent almost 60 days in solitary.

The issue is not whether there are any consequences but whether they're the right ones.

That was a tongue-in-cheek response to the previous claims that Trump's felony convictions aren't really a "consequence".

Upon further review, I would like to issue a public apology to Stacyhs. Stacy, I apologize for calling you, in the heat of the moment, a "PITA." It was uncalled for. I still disagree with you on some of these matters, such as how much people should be celebrating, and the level of consequences Von Schitzinpants is presently suffering. But to call you a name was wrong.

Thank you, Shemp. To give a sincere apology takes character. Much appreciated.:)
