But finally the balance has shifted. Before today, the default was "Trump will avoid justice unless something happens". Now with the guilty verdict, the default is "Trump faces justice unless something happens"

I agree somewhat--but I do think that overall it is much better that he is now a convicted felon than if he had been acquitted, he would grift off either outcome but the key to the election will be the independents, and this speaks to them.

Also, note that other than winning the presidency and using that to overturn this result, he can make appeals but despite what loons like Jonathan Turley say his grounds for appeal are weak, and if it goes to the Supreme Court a couple justices would absolutely be required to recuse themselves.
