If the MAGAGAs try as hard as they did on 1/6, they won't need much asswhumpin' before they scatter.

Will a few of the worst ones, the natural-born blackshirts, plan sneakier atrocities? Kidnappings, arson, poisonings? Possibly, but the ranks of the usual suspects already contain moles -- moles with arrest powers, guns, and backup.

In fine, Donny Dimwit has shabby amateurs on his team.
Are you scared? Didn't think so.

Cause he would have had to claim it as an election expense which would make it open record.

I'm not sure he had to do that. Trump could easily pay for an NDA without it being an election expense. But Trump wanted no possible trace to himself. And being Trump he wanted to make it a business expense.

What I find hilarious is that Trump's selfishness caused it all. He caused Cohen to turn against him because he screwed him over simply because he could. Cohen had worked for Trump for years. And Trump screwed him. Both with his end of year bonus and not giving him a job.

True, but he would have had to care about it before it came to the election. He didn't care about this until the grab them tapes came out, and when that happened, he got concerned that if the truth about Stormy Daniels came out, it would have killed his campaign.

So by the time the Stormy Daniels story became something he wanted to suppress, it was all about the election.

Yeah, he could have paid for an NDA when it happened, but he had no reason to until the election.

Yes, it was all about the election.

But nothing would necessarily stop Trump from paying Daniels as a personal expense. But then there would be a paper trail to Trump. And that was unacceptable. As always, it is the cover up Trump is being busted for.

One of Blanche's dumb arguments today was the suggestion that the existence of the evidence itself proves Trump's innocence because Trump would have destroyed it.

When they "rest" it means they've finished presenting evidence and witnesses. Then they wrap it all up by giving their closing arguments.
Thanks; I thought that was all done at the same time.

Whether he paid for the NDA out of his personal account, or the way he did, it would have had to have been reported as something related to the campaign. Either a donation or an expense. Something.

If he didn't report it and paid for it out of his personal account it would be just as illegal as it is now. The only difference is it would be 1 charge rather than whatever it is....30 something.

I don't think so. Trump is being prosecuted for false documents. Writing a check directly from himself to Stormy Daniels wouldn't be a false document. Now whether it could be considered a donation to the campaign is a separate issue.

That's the argument that they're making in court. The fact that money went to benefit his campaign that he didn't claim is how it's a felony. If he pays anyone money to the benefit of his campaign it has to be accounted for or it's a violation. Would it have been a felony? Would it have been state or federal? I don't know, but it still would have been against the law.

Blanche calling Cohen the "MVP of liars" and "the greatest liar of all time" while defending Donald Trump has to rate as one of the greatest examples of irony of all time. Like the world has never seen before.

"Man not wearing pants is shocked, simply shocked, that your fly is down" is part of their whole bit. Anyone with enough neurons in their head to form a synapse going "Wait but Trump is the biggest liar who's ever lied" is the point.

It's in the center of the Venn Diagram "Every accusation is a confession" and "Yeah I'm being this blatantly hypocritical, dare you to do something about" flexes.

Not exactly. They called the payments to Cohen a legal expense when it was a reimbursement. That is a misdemeanor. That is creating false business documents. That it was to cover up election expenses or tax fraud is what makes it a felony.

I feel like that's what I said.

Are you saying that if Trump paid Stormy with a check and didn't claim it as a campaign donation\expense then this all would have been legal? If that's you're claim then it's not correct. It still would have been a violation of campaign finance laws at the very least.

i also think the defense has to come up with some reason as to why trump was associating with cohen at all if it wasn’t that he was doing saul goodman stuff for him. for his legal opinions? that’s what i’d ask if in my closer was the prosecution anyway. if he didn’t commit all these crimes on trumps behalf, what was he around for?

It probably would have been an election expense and a violation of campaign regulations. But it wouldn't have been the false business document that allows the City of New York to prosecute.

It's the combination of those two things that makes it a felony.

Right, so we've been talking past each other. My point was merely that no matter how he paid for it, out of any account, not putting it on a campaign expense or donation sheet would make it a crime.

Probably.

It would have been illegal. But it likely wouldn't have been a felony.
