Cont: Luton Airport Car Park Fire III

Respectfully snipped.

That, evidenced by much posting history, is a no-brainer. We will be told that the Prime Minister's office intimidated and coerced the authors of the report into issuing a report favorable to that PM.

It'll be particularly amusing if we have a different PM by then.

I like how, according to Vixen, the way to tell if someone has issued a press release is to survey a representatively large sample of media outlets to see if they're all using the same language in their reports.

Actually going to the entity's published press releases? Unknown technology!

If it's not in a British newspaper it never happened. If it is in a British newspaper the wording was dictated by someone from a government minister's office. Can't lose.

It's striking that not only did all of the press report exactly the same words as each other, but the chief fire officer spoke exactly the same words too without reading from a script.

It's almost as if the press all reported what he actually said rather than quote some mythical press release.

Also, it seems that there's no way to produce a reliable transcript of what is said at a press conference. If only someone could invent some sort of device that records sounds.

It's quite easy to record sounds. There are many products available that can do that.

Now what we need is something that can play back recordings.

That is the modern meaning. Look up the etymology of 'muck' and its original meaning then you'll have a better idea of how the phrase arose in its pure sense.

It originally meant exactly what he posted.

You seem to have changed it.

We will see in due course if the vehicle is ever identified officially by brand, make, model and year.

I would disagree the press report things accurately. For example, a press release saying 'X could be back after Easter' is invariably transformed into, 'X back after Easter'. Or 'Could this be the end of the triple lock' becomes, 'Triple Lock to end!' and anything that could be controversial is put in quotation marks and attributed to 'sources'. I shouldn't trust how news is reported in the tabloids if I were you.

The website doesn't have an author so it is not official as is Hopkinson's press release. It simply reiterates what he said but gets rid of the conditional tense.

It is the official website of the fire service and the press release is an official document from the fire service.

How is it any less official?

What's wrong with saying it means there's an opportunity for profit in dirty work? Muck is dirt or more literally manure (as in "mucking out") is it not? And brass is money (as in "brass in pocket"), right? That's all pretty straightforward.

I don't know what "pure sense" you think you're talking about but I'm disinclined to suppose you have any special insight considering you wrote the phrase completely back-to-front.

Dirty or unpleasant activities are also lucrative. Proverbial saying, late 17th century; brass here means ‘money’.

But what would Oxford Reference know compared to the all seeing oracle that is Vixen's Ego?

ETA: Bear in mind we're being lectured on what the saying 'really' means by someone who quoted it ******* backwards.

The current stated position of the BF&RS (as published on 21/03/2024), on conclusion of the investigation carried out in conjunction with Bedfordshire Police, is that the instigating vehicle was "...diesel-powered – it was not a mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid or electric vehicle.".

This supercedes all previous press statements and/or press releases.

There is no wriggle room for 'plausible denial' in this phrasing. It is a clear and unambiguous statement.

Anyone trying to argue that 'car zero' is, or even may have been some flavour of EV is accusing BF&RS of lying to the public.

Anyone trying to argue that BF&RS have not issued a press release since 11/10/2023 is lying.

The precise make and model of the instigating vehicle is irrelevant to these facts.

The identity of the driver of the instigating vehicle is irrelevant to these facts.

The amount of deference paid to the upper classes in British society is irrelevant to these facts.

The etymology and/or meaning of regional aphorisms is irrelevant to these facts.

I don't care if there is a squirrel over there, my attention is focused here.

Go ahead. Use your considerable expertise in parkade fires as expressed in these threads and design one. Then post it here. Remember that the design has to conform to current building codes, and be economically feasible or no one will build it.

1. A sprinkler system.

2. Do not use aluminium pipes to deal with fuel leaks. Why? Because they melt at high temperature and cause rapid spread of fire to other floors.

Yeah. I thought about asking her what her excuse will be when Kier Starmer is the new PM in a few months, but then I realized that I already know the answer.

When the report comes out - and I have no doubt at all that the exact vehicle will remain unspecified - questions WILL be raised in parliament about the negligent conditions at Luton Airport car park that gave rise to the destruction and infrastructure collapse.

You can also be sure that Mr. Sunak and his wife, earn roughly £8,000,000 between them in annual dividends alone without lifting a finger, so ask yourself why would he be in a low-paid job as PM of the UK, circa £200,000pa and why is he holding back the General Election for as long as possible? The obvious answer is he is trying to maximize his investments. I am sure he is a jolly nice fellow but he is a businessman first and foremost and he will certainly not have changed his spots. The fire was almost certainly caused by a thermal runaway and certainly caused by a Tata JLR vehicle and true to his nature the brand is being protected as that is where some of his fortune lies as well has his social contacts with Tata.

Yes, we all know Sunak is a mercenary little ****, with no interest in anything other than lining the pockets of himself and his family. Can you demonstrate a link between that and BF&RS's statements that rises beyond innuendo?

Are you arguing that BF&RS are lying for Sunak?

If not, why is this relevant?

I think she's been arguing that from the very beginning.

What "negligent conditions" would those be? Also, what do you mean by "exact vehicle?"

Most politicians could be earning far more in the private sector than their public salaries. This proves exactly nothing.

. . .and why is he holding back the General Election for as long as possible? The obvious answer is he is trying to maximize his investments.

The obvious answer is because the Tories are likely to get wiped out, and parties in power that expect to lose almost invariably put off elections as long as possible.

You have zero evidence for any of this; it's simply a ridiculous conspiracy theory you've dreamed up.

certainly caused by a Tata JLR vehicle
.

Oh, c'mon. This is beyond goofy.

Also, stuttering being some sort of evidence of a vast government-wide conspiracy is a goofy idea as well.

Also, Also, as an aside, for the whole time I've been on this site, I've always misread smart cooky's username as Smartcocky. No idea why. And even worse, I've always pronounced it in my head as Smart N Cocky. Again, no idea why.

carry on, my goofy friend.

I think she's been arguing that from the very beginning.

Except she's in the weird position that she doesn't want to say that BF&R is lying, so it's hard to say that they're lying because Sunak told them to.

I don't really know why she wants to avoid the word "lie". It leads to ridiculous claims that
  • The initial vehicle was an EV or a hybrid.
  • The statement "The vehicle involved was diesel-powered – it was not a mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid or electric vehicle," announced by the fire department, is not a lie.

No wonder I’m confused.

This is going to revolutionize law enforcement. Any time someone doesn't speak with linguistic perfection, that will be grounds for immediate arrest.

Seriously though, this is the same crap Apollo hoax idiots spew about the Apollo 11 crew's public speaking appearances. I'd be more inclined to suspect someone who spoke with perfect fluency, because that's not how people actually speak in the vast majority of real life verbal interactions.
