Now, more layoffs have been finalized through an email from CEO Elon Musk to executives, first reported by The Information, stating that 6-year veteran Rebecca Tinucci, Tesla’s Senior Director of EV charging, would be leaving the company on Tuesday, along with nearly all of her 500-person charging team (“a few” employees will be reassigned to other teams, according to The Information).
To lay off that whole team just when the company has earned such a big win, when billions in public money is available for buildout (which would not have been available without industry NACS adoption, which was, again, spearheaded by Tinucci’s negotiations), and when there is a lead to be maintained, is absolutely crazy. This move, alone, would erode any confidence I had left in Tesla’s CEO – if I still had any.
Musk seemingly fires the entire Supercharger team:

Seems a really bizarre move. From the same article...

Customers not turned off by Musk's antics instead are losing interest with a product lineup of two EVs that are ancient in car years (the Models S and X) and two EVs that are merely old (the Models 3 and Y). The Models 3 and Y are also the only two vehicles that Tesla sells in volume. Any other automaker would have a second-generation Model 3 ready to go either this year or next, but at Tesla, the product pipeline is empty.
And yet, Tesla is not just laying off Daniel Ho, director of vehicle programs and new product introduction, but also his entire team.
Oh my god, it's even worse.

Not only are they laying off the Supercharger team, they are also getting rid of the team that should be bringing out the new lower cost models that Musk promised in the Q1 results call.
I expect Daniel Ho told Musk that his plan of bringing out new models in the first half of 2025 was impossible to achieve and so Musk fired him and everybody who had anything to do with him.
if you want to restructure, the important thing is to get rid of your current experts first before they have a chance to teach the incoming team anything.
In the example I gave, of my employer, the restructuring involved getting rid of people who weren't actually experts, as measured by their results.
If Tesla's "new products" team hasn't produced any new products, are they really experts in producing new products? Do you really want to keep them around, teaching incomers their particular vision of "no new products"?
Obviously yes - you are throwing away the technical knowledge that you paid for in R&D.
The new team can look at it with fresh eyes and a new perspective, but they don't have to start from scratch.
Musk destroyed hundreds of millions in time and effort.
Every Taxpayer has the Obligation to ask why someone who's entire wealth is based on their taxes gets to have hundreds of billion and still receive more taxpayer money - and pay almost no taxes themselves because they have a scam charity.
Laying off the unproductive "new products" team isn't the same as destroying all of their documented efforts and findings. The new team doesn't need the old team around, to look at that body of work with fresh eyes and a new perspective.
But keeping someone around from the old team can explain to the new team why they didn't make this change or why they didn't move forward with that project. I see what you're saying but now it will be an entire new team and there is a 0% chance that the new team won't HAVE to repeat some of the same failings as the old team. It's unavoidable.
You're also implying that the entirety of two departments (and then some) were completely and entirely inept to the point of being fired.
Maybe you're right, hell, I don't know. It's not my company, but these people had a huge hand in bringing Tesla where they are today. The new product line brought out the cybertruck, which Musk couldn't shut up about 6-8 months ago. He's basically admitting that the cybertruck is a huge failure.
well you can’t have it both ways. the new product guys he fired either delivered the cheap model and the robo taxi or that stuff isn’t ready for 2025 and be lied to the shareholders last week
how long until this dude starts ripping the sinks out of tesla hq
