Split Thread Musk, SpaceX and future of Tesla

There's a "physical" recall for the Cybertruck, apparently a pedal cover can slip off…

One of Musk’s maxims is: “The best part is no part”.

Having a non-functional trim piece on the accelerator would seem to violate this principle, and led to this whole mess.

Tesla interiors have been criticized for not being “luxurious” enough for the price. I see it more as “elegant simplicity”, and now getting into other vehicles they seem unnecessarily “busy” with knobs and switches placed haphazardly everywhere.

this isn’t one of those download recall ones that don’t count

Correct.

Tesla does have mobile service units, and this repair seems to be drilling a small hole and inserting a rivet, which is something they might easily do at the owner’s home.

And another simple fix might be to just remove the non-functional trim piece and be done with it!

Or use an epoxy glue.

The issue isn't so much the loose pedal cover, it's that it can get trapped under the trim and keep the accelerator pressed.

As I as was reading the article about the slipping pedal cover it promoted one to someone whose Cybertruck had to be "rebooted" and it took overnight to complete! I find that funny, especially when thinking about the jokes of "if cars had progressed as quickly as CPUs" that someone would always tag on a line on about Windows and the bluescreen of death, it appears we are at the point that cars are nothing more than mobile computers. :)

Worse than the problem with computers is the car can cost upwards of 100,000 dollars and lack of a promised software update can render it useless.

I have lost use of a dozen perfectly functional phones, an obd2 car scanner and five computers for this. And my losses are but a tiny fraction of money others have lost.

Cars have the added problems of hard parts that are required by only one specific vehicle. Brakes, suspension parts and batteries particularly in ev stuff. Tesla has a lot of an issue in this already.

It makes the argument for "dumb" electric vehicles pretty strong. If Apple can disable your phone forever with a software change why would you risk that with an unhinged fool like Musk?

When it comes to SpaceX reaching Mars, there is no boss and there is no client so it does not matter how long it takes to get there. The only people Musk has to worry about disappointing is himself, and the peanut gallery when he finally makes it.

Don’t get me wrong, I like plans that have fictional timelines that are laid out in precise terms. Its just funnier when done by eight year olds, not guys with hair plugs.

i know i’m citing reuters who is always lying but fsd price cut down to $8k

sounds like the free trial beta test is going good

I do like this line:

In 2023, Musk said that the price of FSD, then priced at $15,000, was very low, saying that the value of the car would increase dramatically if it became autonomous.

"... if it became autonomous". Yes, the value of my car would increase dramatically, if it became a Ferrari. How does he get away with this ******

I posted the following yesterday to a Tesla forum I’m on - Tesla motors club.com:

Has anyone else seen this - I haven’t seen it posted.

It comes close to my current sentiments.

That up to now, Tesla has had a “Master Plan” involving more Gigafactories, more models, Semi production and the like. Recently they seem to be “thrashing around” with lack of focus and erratic pricing and policies and layoffs. Not to mention the optics surrounding the battle over Musk’s compensation package, and his controversial political posts on X which have alienated a lot of potential buyers.

As such, I’m no longer buying more shares for the time being. Though not yet so discouraged as to begin selling. Still, if Black and I are feeling this way, no wonder the stock price is falling.

Note: I’m prepared for a torrent of thumbs down - I’ve been getting my fair share lately anyway.

Of note: on a forum peopled mostly with Tesla supporters, that post only got one “thumbs down” out of 37 total reactions.

I think it clear that Tesla is having a hard time adjusting to a EC market where it is not the dominent business, and is having dealing with real, heavy, competition. The days when "Tesla" and "Electric Car" were almost the same thing are over.
And, yes, Musk has a big share of the blame for this.

he’s over shared enough on social media for me to think he’s somewhat of an idiot that’s got a talent for turning everything into a pr nightmare. used to be able to say at least he runs all these successful businesses but that’s lost a lot of its luster lately, even if you exclude him running twitter into the ground in like a year. which you shouldn’t. but really it’s probably the woke come to get him.

i think their inability to build an affordable model and instead focusing on a truck that was a grotesquery while trying to break into the chinese market as the expensive foreign **** model where there’s a bunch of affordable chinese models was a pretty serious miscalculation.

no plans for a cheap electric model. once again it turns out he was the liar, not reuters.

GOod news for the competition ,tough.

Reminds me of Henry Ford in the early 1920's who refused to beleive that his beloved Model T was outdated and took a long time as to why Ford sales had gone into the dumper with a new company called GM putting out a more modern auto at the same price that was just plain superior to the Model T.
