I had a Youtube video turn up in my feed titled "Can a Book Drive You Mad?" Surprisingly it wasn't a review of " Ten Years to Save the West"!

Chamber's "The King in Yellow"

You know you've got problems when you even need to get a dog drunk, still could be worse, at least the poor animal wasn't being rohypnoled by James Cleverly.

Extraordinary claims need extraordinary evidence - going to have to see his diary for the last few months before I'll accept your claim.

I just want to congratulate Agatha for her choice of thread title

Rishi wants to stop doctors writing sick notes. It's to cut benefits bills by forcing unwell people to work.

As Adam Bienkov has pointed out, this is a culture wars thing that will run and run, but will never resolve. It's all about headlines and keeping his sleazy cohorts out of the press

14 years and they are just getting around to sorting it out... Wonder how the 75 year olds who receive a state pension are going to like having to go back to work... oh not those workshy welfare scroungers.....

Oops, that was supposed to be a reply to P. J. Denyer's post.

Talking, per #141, of Truss' "book", have another trashing of it - https://www.theguardian.com/politic...lessons-what-learned-former-pm-book-liz-truss - courtesy of Teh Graun's economics correspondent.

Tl;dr Mad Liz was wrong on pretty much everything and here's why.

I mean to say, it's not like there haven't been any number of critiques, some even using what passes for evidence in economics, of the sort of "free market" bollocks the likes of Truss spout. But she'd just dismiss them as something or other.

She tried, and it worked among tory party members. It's amazing how anti-Irish a party with an Irish genesis and name and to which many Irish immigrants have gravitated to can be.

But how many of the current lot know about the Irish bits?

Very few, if any, I would imagine.

I can remember a friend of Irish extraction using the Irish spelling and causing great confusion. Mind, that was back in the 80s and someone thought she was somehow expressing support for the IRA...

Here's another take on Liz Truss's book that isn't taking it so seriously, also from The Guardian.
God, I love John Crace and it's good that he's back on form after having a pretty severe heart attack.

If the Covid years have taught us anything it's that having a working culture where sick people feel pressured to come in to work anyway, and then spread their infection around, is a simply brilliant idea.

Anyway, encouraging the unwell to come back to work ASAP has always been the job of gawd-awful daytime TV. Nothing else is needed.

Hmm, wrt the thread title, would a pit filled with honey make a useful trap?
Why yes, it is Friday evening....

When you thought Sunak couldn't make his position less tenable he's decided to pick on the sick and vulnerable and farm out sickness assessments to private contract.

Does Infosys have any interests in that field?

I see Rish! has rejected the proposed deal to allow under 30s travel visa free betwee the UK and the EU.

It's almost like he doesn't realise there's an election on.
