Cont: Musk buys Twitter II

I am not sure if I should be surprised, but Michael Shellenberger says 98% of political donations by Twitter employees were to the Democratic Party. Not stated if by amount or number.
He also says Threads is dead, and X is the center of dialogue for movers shakers and wise guys.

Only 86 minutes

...and he knows this how?
No idea. He says it, he was invited by Musk to deep dive into the company Musk bought. Shellenberger is another person to hate on, but he is fluent and articulate as hell. I find this pattern, they are vaccine and climate sceptical, gender critical extremists but the new mainstremists, and so on. He talks a lot about the Hunter Biden laptop, which is seriously fiddling while Rome burns. Or maybe it matters, no idea.

As an update, I find Threads is working adequately as a Twitter replacement. Far from perfect, but better for me than what Twitter had become.

Between that and Apple News and podcasts and online forums, I still feel I’m keeping up with the day’s events.

"Bot networks on Twitter are so obvious right now.

There's an influx of December 2023 verified accounts with 100K+ followers.

They're not even hiding it anymore. Register account, dump a bazillion followers, buy Twitter Blue for visibility... flood political topics non-stop.

How do you even have 40K posts in a month even?"

Have a read of the following story - you can scroll down to the Twitter part https://www.theverge.com/2024/1/12/24036156/openai-policy-amazon-ai-listings

How much more obvious can it get?

I would never touch threads after it was recommended as the new anti free speech X, I guess tribalism is fashionable.
On waking, it is a terrible choice.
Listen to the birds, listen to music, read a book, listen to Stephen Fry reading Animal Farm, scroll through X. If threads has less content, probably a tick.

I couldn't have said it better myself!

How do you reconcile your supposed free speech advocacy with this hypocritical drivel...?

What a disgusting rabid organisation [Media Matters]. Hopefully Musk puts them in orbit and leaves them to rot.
Boo hoo, they're such meanies. How dare they call neo nazi content on X.

Monkey see, monkey do.

Pretty much everything that you've noted about this person is a red flag, really. Without actual facts to work with, the 98% is deeply suspicious to start with, the Threads is dead looks like obvious pro-Twitter propaganda (Threads has been on a general path of rapidly gaining users and Twitter's been on a general path of losing users, so it's no surprise for Twitter to try to fight back against their competition with fairly normal negative tactics), and everything else looks like well debunked anti-science Republican propaganda narratives. As a side note, since you say that he spoke of Hunter Biden's "laptop" matters a lot, I think that it's worth saying that it matters, but not in the way that was likely claimed. Chances are still remarkably high that "Hunter Biden's laptop" was nothing more than an illegal hack and dump wide open to having been manipulated after Hunter Biden's relevant accounts showed activity remarkably similar to the hacked DNC server and the "laptop" was actually just a hard drive, contrary to the narratives that were spread. Quite frankly, Hunter Biden is a private citizen who is in the spotlight at this point solely because Republicans are trying to grasp at straws to keep focus on "Democrats bad." Revisiting Hunter Biden paying back a car loan after it was already deemed to be fine? Screams of horror! Impeach Biden! Trump and family enriching themselves off foreign money while actually in the White House and having been directly dealing with the policy for the entities paying them or right after to the tune of millions, hundreds of millions, and even billions (each of those refers to something different, incidentally)? Silence from the Republicans and their propagandists. There is NO good principle or patriotism involved in the Republican focus on Hunter Biden's "laptop" story. Hence, any Republican propagandist that spends a bunch of time on such can probably be largely dismissed as thoroughly untrustworthy because truth and principle are not something that that's actually guiding them.

Sounds like access journalism. Musk gives Shellenberger stories to write and it’s expected that he’ll write propaganda for him as well. Of course you just have to take Shellenberger at his word because you have “no idea” how reliable the information is.

He also, by the way, claims that there are alien space craft and bodies that his Pentagon and government insiders have definitely seen or know about and he knows that his sources are genuine and not crazy because he’s seen crazy on the streets of “San Fransicko” etc…

Vaccine and global warming skeptic! Yeah very trustworthy. I think he was also one of those who got the ball rolling on suggestive commentary on Nancy Pelosi’s husband’s attacker. He’s also made plenty of insinuations against Rene Diresta and Mick West. In other words, he’s anti-skeptic when it comes to evidence-based claims and not someone I would trust on anything.

Keep the trans discussion to the Strand thread, where people who don't want to get flooded by a completely toxic debate can avoid it

For 45 minutes Elon Musk discusses X with Ben Shapiro, and other matters.
Musk was clearly misunderstood by the mighty advertisers.

Given that introduction and context, that makes me assume that it's mostly about trying to make excuses and distract from the main issues actually at hand. Can't say that I'm at all interested in Shapiro and Musk trying to whitewash.

I tried for a neutral tone expecting the pile on.
