Remember that when Jr. is putting you into a 3rd rate retirement home and never visits.
Hehe yeah. I do stick to what i said though, as i have one kid that transitioned as an adult when they knew what they wanted, and another kid that wanted puberty blockers and was really confused at a younger age. But saying 'no wait till you're older' worked for them, because they ended up growing out of the confusion they had and are content now. I think.

Yes those wicked birth mothers got exactly what they deserved. Going forward, we can expect the kids to move much more quickly on this. New Zealand is funding an agency called inside out to get transitioning on the road at primary schools.

Hard to argue that these parents don't know what choice they're making at this point. They are choosing to be estranged by their trans children by acting like this.

I would really caution the parents of trans children to be skeptical of media that paints these parents who are knowingly alienating themselves from their own children, and then bragging about it, as noble role models rather than petty losers. Misery loves company, and parents who have done this to themselves may feel they need to encourage other parents of trans children to behave the same way, if only as means to validate their own choices.

One of these girls ("Grace") has Asperger's, her parents are separated, she showed no prior signs of transgender identity, and then suddenly started demanding she transition during COVID lockdowns when normal social interactions got thrown in the wood chipper. Those are all danger signs that maybe caution really is advised. And when her mom wanted to slow down the rush to medicalization, which was entirely reasonable, her dad didn't. So now she's alienated from the mom but NOT the dad.

You know what that sounds like to me? That sounds like one parent is pitting the child against the other. Which is sadly common among separated couples even without issues of transgenderism.

Did you notice that domestic conflict aspect to the story? I bet you didn't. Because it doesn't fit the narrative you want.

So says the mother who is now estranged from their daughter as a result of being stridently opposed to her wishes. Gonna have to say that's not exactly the most reliable narrator.

You didn't read the article, did you? She didn't say that. She didn't have to.

Interesting example of what I'm talking about earlier. This UK tabloid is written very sympathetically to the anti-trans parents of late teen trans children, but it demonstrates exactly how parents digging in their heels to be vicious transphobes accomplish little more than making sure they aren't part of their soon to be adult children's lives.

By any chance was this bit of cautionary blackmail sponsored by the UK Pony Breeders' Association? Complete with strategically placed ads headlined, "Pony or 3rd Rate Retirement Home? Your Decision!" If not, they've missed a trick.

Some great news for some people ITT - Florida hears you.
Seems like terrible news to me. I can understand the bit about pulling "how-to" manuals related to sexuality (at least below a certain age) but a total ban on all books with LGBTQ characters is ridiculous.

I wonder if they have to pull all the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts novels in light of the non-Platonic love between Dumbledore & Grindelwald?

If the law that prompted this had been more carefully written, instead of being delivered as a "screw you" to the "woke", this would not be so much a problem.

The AAA and CASCA boards reached a decision to remove the session “Let’s Talk about Sex Baby: Why biological sex remains a necessary analytic category in anthropology” from the AAA/CASCA 2023 conference program. This decision was based on extensive consultation and was reached in the spirit of respect for our values, in order to ensure the safety and dignity of all of our members, as well as the scientific integrity of the program.

The first ethical principle in AAA’s Principles of Professional Responsibility is to “Do no harm.” The session was rejected because it relied on assumptions that run contrary to the settled science in our discipline, framed in ways that do harm to vulnerable members of our community. It commits one of the cardinal sins of scholarship—it assumes the truth of the proposition that it sets out to prove, namely, that sex and gender are simplistically binary, and that this is a fact with meaningful implications for the discipline.

There was an article in the Skeptical Inquirer recently by Coyne and Maroja discussing the ideological subversion of biology. It includes the 'sex is not binary' claim as the first example. This is the logical outcome of what has been developing in academia for a few decades, but since the Sokal affair has been kept in check until more recently. People who think that science can consist of deciding what conclusions are politically or emotionally desirable and then declaring anything that supports those conclusions to be science and anything that apparently doesn't to be 'discredited' have been increasing and have now reached a critical mass. Most of them no longer seem to be able to distinguish whether they think something is 'harmful' from whether or not it is true.

Given the extent to which this rot has also infested the skeptic movement I'm surprised they actually managed to get this published.

So says the mother who is now estranged from their daughter as a result of being stridently opposed to her wishes.
Do you think that most mothers would not be, at the very least, concerned when they find out that their vulnerable 17 year old daughter (who is autistic and has ADHD) is planning to have:

a double mastectomy and also a phalloplasty — a risky operation that grafts a pseudo-penis using skin from the arm, leg, or stomach.

I'll be honest - that sounds like an horrific intervention for a physically healthy 18 year old. I can't imagine many parents who wouldn't want to intervene and stop that. That doesn't make the mother a "viscous transphobe", as you would have it.

Seems like the mother will have to come to terms with it sooner or later, because 16 and 17 year olds soon become adults who no longer have to ask permission.

Sounds to me like you don't think they should have to ask permission when then are 16 and 17 (or even younger).

It is fascinating to see the complete disregard for the parents in this epic medical scandal.
Sadistic delight comes to mind.

With true persistent dysphoria in a range between 1 in 3000 and 1 in 10,000, how should trans youth be statistically represented in these books?
With same sex attraction at around 3 in 100, should they be given more characters than trans? With bisexuals clearly getting the best share of the dating pool, should they be given clearly defined characters? Does b still mean bisexual, or has the fictitious "non binary" comandeered the letter in the TRA mind?
