Merged Bitcoin - Part 3

Have we really run out of soothsayers who claim that bitcoin will die any second now?

We obviously haven't run out of idiots who can't tell the difference between "eventually" and "any second now". Or maybe they are just liars, trying to re-write the past because the real thing isn't to their liking. Either way they are clearly still here...

The purpose of bumping this thread wasn't really to invite posters to make fools of themselves.

Clearly your hope was that people forgot what's already in the thread and you could sneak your dishonest revisionist claims in somehow. You failed, as you always seem to do.

I have no idea what you mean by "revisionist claims" and you won't be able to list any if you are being honest.

You are just being a fortune teller.

Everything ceases to exist eventually so that's not really useful is it? It's been 14 years and BTC is still chugging along. Throughout that time people have repeatedly claimed it would be worthless and fall out of use and that simply hasn't happened.

Everyone can have their opinions about how useful it is or isn't, about its uses, or the ethics of it. But it's an indisputable fact that the predictions of its demise have been wrong.

Why else did you bump it?
Is inviting posters to make fools of themselves the only reason to bump this thread?

If there was nothing else to say about BTC, why not let it die?
Maybe I should. In the early years, I would occasionally bump the thread to remind the nay sayers that in spite of their claims that bitcoin would die ("not a shadow of doubt about it"), it was still around.

Times have changed and there is no reason to point this out any more. Like it or not, cryptos are here to stay in one form or other. With the rapid advances in AI technology, bitcoin could be rendered obsolete though I suspect that it will be relegated to strictly a store of value. Maybe mining techniques will improve.

AI is set to make big changes in all aspects of our lives. Why would bitcoin be exempt?

Hard to change something that has yet to demonstrate any practical utility beyond being a volatile, speculative asset for day trading.

I don't know. I'm not a mind reader.

I think BTC has already been relegated to an instrument for gambling. All the hullaballoo about using it or the block chain for other stuff seems to have faded away. Even reports of ransomware attacks have died down.

Presumably though, miners are still sucking up unsustainable quantities of energy. It's a concern that nobody is talking about that anymore.

I bring it up now and then, but don't get much of a response from advocates except that maybe some of the cryptocurrency changes to proof of stake, so don't worry.

It seems to me there are 2 things.
1. Should the unbanked and unbankable in the world have a means to transact finance?
But
2. Should I get paid wages in bitcoin and assume I do nothing but watch it multiply in value by 2, by 10, by 100?

I would answer yes to 1, and no to 2.

In other words, a crypto that works like fiat currency seems the answer.

Well you are the one who asked why else I would bump this thread (if not to invite posters to make fools of themselves). If that is not reading my mind then that is a big assumption.

Has it ever been anything else?

It is yesterday's news as far as the main stream media is concerned (so not reportable) and will continue that way until the next big development pushes it to the forefront again. That doesn't mean that things aren't happening.

I'm sorry that I can't give you a more definite answer but I don't pretend to be a fortune teller.

I'm not asking that anyone be a fortune teller, I'm asking that they be against the extreme waste of energy.

I am against the waste of energy and I hope that bitcoin will move away from POW to a more energy efficient algorithm. I have stated this before.

Of what use is your hopes? Pile it up with some thoughts and prayers and see what good it does anyone.

Or, you could refuse to participate. More people refusing to trade in it disincentivizes mining.
