Trump and Jail

All former Presidents have lifetime Secret Service protection. I see no location limits on this protection. They are bound by Federal law to protect ex-Presidents from harm, until they are releived of such duty by the ex-President. Why does it bother you that he is entitled to SS protection even in prison? All I care about is that he is punished for his crimes, either with prison or house arrest.
I guess there are 2 questions:

- Does it HAVE to be the secret service that protects a president. I know there is a law that mandates protection, but can other branches of the government (e.g. the military, or capitol police, or in this case prison guards) also be tasked with the protection?

- Is there a minimum "service level" for protection? When a president/ex president is roaming about in public, I assume the number of agents varies according to risk level. If he is stuck in jail, he is pretty much safe from threats (given the fact that prison is itself a controlled environment.) Its possible that his secret service "protection" could consist of a monthly visit by a junior agent. In other words something that gives a sort of "symbolic" protection but doesn't really serve a practical purpose.

I found out after my post that Judge Cannon canceled the August 25 public CIPA hearing about 4 hours ago.
You'd think she would have gotten advice before her ruling, not after. Makes me wonder if she's also got a bit of an ego problem.

It must be sad to live in a world where you only see the negative and are blind to the positive:

The fall of the Soviet Union.
The reunification of Germany.
The freedom of the Baltic States
The Me,Too movement.
The life imprisonment of John Gotti.
The downfall and imprisonment of Harvery Weinstein.
Our first Black POTUS elected and re-elected.
The legalization of same sex marriage.
The convictions and imprisonments of the cops who murdered George Floyd.
Trump lost his bid for re-election by millions of votes.
Hundreds of J6 rioters found guilty of various crimes including sedition/seditious conspiracy.
Trump indicted on almost 100 criminal charges in four different cases.
Giuliani losing his law license and indicted.
Lin Wood voluntarily giving up his law license and retiring.
Sidney Powell indicted.
John Eastman indicted.

I suspect that there is a class of person who would see all of those things as negatives.

This is the part where you seem to think this gives them special rights they otherwise would not have. It just doesn't work that way. If Joe Biden wants to hang out at my house, and I let him in, but I do not allow any secret service agents in, then they don't get to enter. Likewise, prisons are under no obligation to allow any federal agents inside, and any access they are given can be restricted, such as being limited to conference areas or having to surrender firearms.

Fine. We can keep doing this loop forever to no end.

As soon as Trump faces anything that a reasonable human would call reasonable negative consequences that are an appropriate response to what he's done and not a feel good victory or something purely symbolic at best let me know.

I'm sure it will happen.... wait for it.... any day now.

Trump's already suffering.

In a rambling speech after the documents indictment I heard him whinge that he "didn't need" the indictment, "I had a nice life".

Sure, he needs to suffer more, but just thought I'd mention that.

Let me try :)

The fall of the Soviet Union. Only to set up a bunch of smaller dictatorships.
The reunification of Germany. And burdened the winner with a massive cleanup operation.
The freedom of the Baltic States. And the very destructive breakup of Yugoslavia.
The Me,Too movement. Yes, that's a good thing.
The life imprisonment of John Gotti. Who?
The downfall and imprisonment of Harvery Weinstein. Yes, that's a good thing.
Our first Black POTUS elected and re-elected. Too bad he wasn't that effective of a president.
The legalization of same sex marriage. Just another step in the downward spiral of Western civilization. :)
The convictions and imprisonments of the cops who murdered George Floyd. Yes, that's a good thing.
Trump lost his bid for re-election by millions of votes. But he got elected in the first place.
Hundreds of J6 rioters found guilty of various crimes including sedition/seditious conspiracy. Ditto
Trump indicted on almost 100 criminal charges in four different cases. Ditto
Giuliani losing his law license and indicted. Yes, that's a good thing.
Lin Wood voluntarily giving up his law license and retiring. Yes, that's a good thing.
Sidney Powell indicted. Who?

The right wing has built a whole persecution narrative, this falls into that narrative but doesn't necessarily mean that he's suffering it's just the way that he, and those like him like to express mild inconveniences.

I'm not negative in general, but Trump ever getting any version of prison would definitely not be the normal way of things. In this context, "the normal way of things" refers not to everything everywhere always being bad, but specifically to rich or famous people rarely getting any real consequences for their misdeeds... and even more specifically to the fact that Trump is already being protected from himself again right now, so it's an observation of the present, not a prediction of the future. He's out on bail from four jurisdictions, each one of which would normally keep the rest of us locked up to wait for trial. He keeps not only violating the conditions of his release but also promising to keep doing more of it, and nothing happens but a judge occasionally saying not to do what he's already been told not to do and keeps doing & promising to keep doing more. It's like watching some little kids doing something annoying in a store while the parent stands there saying "Don't make me count to three... one... two... I'm counting to three... one... one and a half... I'm serious, did you hear me... one... t'put that down... one..." while the kids pay no attention and keep carrying on. If the world had suddenly changed sufficiently for Trump to ever begin facing even the slightest preliminary glint of responsibility, the time to see a result would have already passed.

I totally get it. We all do. And I can’t say that you're wrong. Before his first indictment I definitely thought Trump is going to get away with it. Not only did Trump murder a guy in broad daylight in front of hundreds of people, he did it on TV and on video in front of billions. All the peon cultists were getting hauled away to prison while Trump was enjoying his billionaire lifestyle. And still his followers support him.

The man ran phony charities, fake universities, cheated on his taxes, stole from his creditors, ran around with whores and yet the POS still smelled like roses to his MAGA cult and the GOP.

I like your analogy to the parent saying, don't let me count to three. Any actual success Trump has enjoyed was the result of his brazeness and his wealth. He will do anything he wants because Trump has never been held accountable.

But there are cracks in the armor. Trump was indicted when I didn’t think he would be. And he was indicted 4 times. The judge did issue a protective order. There will be more bad news headed Trump's way. I think that prosecutors don't want Trump to shut up. They want Trump to hang himself.

There are Debbie Downers everywhere. Some just seem to wallow in the gloom and doom more than others.

It's like having his morning toast a bit more toasted than he likes it. Or a bit of rain on a golf day. That sort of "suffering". This is a guy for whom 18 holes of golf involves almost 18 yards of walking total.

I expect that kind of angst from teenagers, but some people seem intent on prolonging it forever.
Irony is it benefirts nobody but the Magarats, since it damages the morale of those fighting against ti.
Saddest think is the Downers think their eternal pessisism make them look cool and intellectual.
BTW I have problems taking posts seriously from somebody who is so ignroant of recent history not to know who John GOtti is.

Isn't the spelling Magrats, or is that something else?! :)

Former Trump White House lawyer Ty Cobb speaks with CNN's Erin Burnett ahead of former President Donald Trump's booking at the Fulton County jail for charges stemming from District Attorney Fanni Willis' investigation into 2020 election interference.

Don't ignore a lifetime of suffering from insecurity and always having to come up with new ways to prove to himself and the rest of the world that he is a very stable genius and not just a dimwit with money.
Do you remember the Grimm fairy tale about the fisherman's wife and the flounder?

Then the man went home, and when he arrived there, the entire palace was made of polished marble with alabaster statues and golden decoration. Soldiers were marching outside the gate, blowing trumpets and beating tympani and drums. Inside the house, barons and counts and dukes were walking around like servants. They opened the doors for him, which were made of pure gold. He went inside where his wife was sitting on a throne made of one piece of gold a good two miles high, and she was wearing a large golden crown that was three yards high, all set with diamonds and carbuncles. In the one hand she had a scepter, and in the other the imperial orb. Bodyguards were standing in two rows at her sides: each one smaller than the other, beginning with the largest giant and ending with the littlest dwarf, who was no larger than my little finger. Many princes and dukes were standing in front of her.

It was a success story until she made her final wish: "I want to become like God."

An ordinary dimwit with the money Trump inherited but without the inferiority complex could have lived his whole life in the kind of luxury you describe.

Ty Cobb was right when he said that Trump's PR people will be making money off Trump's mugshot as soon as it's sent to them. As the saying goes, "A fool and his money are soon parted."
Anything to get other people to pay for his own expenses, of course.

If someone was enterprising enough, they could fake up a decent mugshot and already be selling it to the faithful. Getting ahead of the game! What Trump would call "Smart!"

Why Trump hasn't gone to jail yet.

Turns out there is a very good reason. Jack Smith is trying to get this case to trial with as few delays as possible.

I suspect Trump will violate the bail terms of his Georgia indictment and get locked up. I think he wants the image of him being sent to jail to prove he is a martyr.
