Ordering pizza the hard way

Well, sure. You might think that if you wanted to expend the energy to remember what was said from one post to the next.

Spare me, honestly. We were disucssing the Constitution here. Fine then, make me feel guilty about the derail.

There is a quote I really like.
I don't have the time right now to search for the exact quote and who originally said it.
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage." - Lord Alexander Tytler on the fall of the Athenian republic

Ironically, he never really wrote it. But people like the quote anyway.
:D

By telling me I must join the government's health care plan.

You don't have to join the government's health plan. Never have, never will. Even in the most astonishingly socialist versions of national health care implemented across the world, you've always had the option to get your health care from a private party if you so choose.

What you must do is to pay for the government's health care plan, whether you plan to use it or not. Just like you must pay for the public libraries, whether you read or not; pay for the fire brigade, whether your house is on fire or not; pay for the army, whether you enlist or not; pay for SEC oversight of the stock market, whether you own stocks or not, and so forth.

I watched the movie till the end. Then when I tried to "Take Action", I got a 404 error.

I blame John Ashcroft.

What people that oppose a national healthcare system sometimes fail to realize is that it's already here and they're already paying for it. Who do you think pays the bills for indigent patients that get emergency care? Everybody else. The difference is that by the time the indigent shows up, it's an emergency at four times the expense. That's a good plan. Wouldn't want to come up with some commie plan that saves money by offering preventative care outside of emergency rooms.

I want the road in front of my house to be free from potholes, but I don't want The Man to know where I choose to drive to.

They will soon if they don't already. All the pieces are there, all they have to do is plug them together. Cameras on major intersections and highways, plus character recognition software, plus a not so big computer database = live tracking of every single vehicle.

Given a number of these camera feeds are open to the public, you could probably do this yourself.

But is the number of indigent patients significant enough?

It is a matter of degree. Why make (what I consider to be) a bad situation worse? Are you seriously saying that my taxes would go DOWN if we instituted a national healthcare plan?

I don't know it it would equate to your taxes going down but most national health services cost less then the USA currently spends on medical treatment (per head of population).

But who is paying for it, and how? That is an important consideration to some of us.

There also has to be considered availability and quality of care. By "quality of care", I don't just mean the capabilities of the medical staff. I mean also things such as what my insurance will and won't pay for, and how much I have to pay for deductables and co-payments, etc. I have one of the best private health insurance deals you can possibly imagine. And it is not an accident. I worked very hard to get it. I would find it hard to believe that I would have as good of an experience with a national health care service.

But is the number of indigent patients significant enough?

Well, it is substantial, and some hospitals in some places suffer greatly because of the attempt to 'do it on the cheap' that means they lose money on it, and get sued for negligence at the same time.

What's more, the whole medical care mess, including the payments to malpractice insurance, etc, which is pretty profitable insurance as far as I know, pretty much insures that most average people WILL be indigent by the time they die. Medical bills and the like typically destroy most people's estates.

It's another case of the rich getting richer, and the middle class being destroyed.

Well tax payers of course - that bottomless supply of money for all governments!
