Spree shooter cruising around Memphis carjacking and shooting random people while live streaming on Facebook. No casualty count yet, but it is believed he was involved in five separate shootings.

Police released a photo of the individual suspected in the shootings, and by the looks of it, he's not a white supremacist MAGAr.

We can now go back to pretending Racially or Ethnically Motivated Domestic Violent Extremist-White Supremacists are the largest threat to the country ever ever.

Equity and ****
Court records show in February of 2020, Kelly, then 17, was charged as an adult with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, using a firearm to commit a dangerous felony and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. Circumstances of the case were not immediately known.

Records show he pleaded guilty to three years in prison. It was not immediately known how much of the sentence he served.

This part made me laugh:

Memphis police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph said 19-year-old Ezekiel Kelly was taken into custody after 9 p.m. in the Whitehaven neighborhood.

Whitehaven, informally known as "Blackhaven", is a predominantly African-American community in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. It was first organized in the late 19th century as a neighborhood for upper-class families. Its current population is about 50,000.

4 dead, 3 wounded and eight separate crime scenes including multiple carjackings.

The suspect served 11 months in jail for previous charges which included two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

The link contains the obligatory social media photos of the suspect with guns and money.

The Parkland verdict (as to whether it's the death penalty or life imprisonment) is currently being read. It looks like this is going to take some time, but it seems to be life imprisonment. I think.

Actual sentencing will be Nov 1, but the jury recommended Life in prison without the possibility of parole. After some thought, I decided I prefer this outcome rather than a death sentence (with its multiple appeals). There are very few times I would wish this on someone, but I'm hoping he is made to suffer there. He's not politically aligned like Rittenhouse was, so is unlikely to find a group to protect him.

There are strong legal and moral arguments against the death penalty. The strongest is that the sometimes the system makes mistakes, and innocent people are convicted. It's applied in a way that discriminates against minorities and the poor and pretty much anybody who can't get the best lawyers. Often a killer has been displaying mental illness for years that was never treated. Etc., etc.

But even when someone's guilt is absolutely certain, as in this case, and when he has been well-represented, I'm not sure that life without parole isn't a more severe punishment than death. Imagine spending 50 years or more in a cage, completely at the mercy of authorities and everybody around you, knowing that you have no hope of anything better, without much to think about except the crimes that put you there. Is life really a lesser sentence? I'd know what I'd choose for myself.

Reading verdicts in US trials is a trial in itself. It's taken about 40 minutes so far and we're still some way off finishing.

Well, in this particular case there were charges and verdicts for each of 17 victims. Maybe it needs to take some time.

It was more the number of aggravating factors for each charge and whether the mitigating factors outweighed them. The jury found (as far as I could tell) that every single aggravating factor which would tend to indicate the death penalty was proved beyond a reasonable doubt, but that the mitigating factors still outweighed them.

A bunch of people seemed to be asking how the jury could possibly find that the death penalty was not appropriate for a case like this. But the jury did find that the death penalty was appropriate, it just also found that the mitigating factors were sufficient to outweigh this finding.

Five people, including one police officer, killed in North Carolina shooting

"Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin told reporters that multiple people were shot on the Neuse River greenway trail around 5pm, and that the police department told her around 8pm that the suspect had been “contained” at a residence in the area."

The perp was arrested so you should be able to guess what colour he'll turn out to be.

A 15 year old white male, according to reports, but being juvenile we may not know more at least for a while.

Daily Mail: He killed his older brother. Also on a nearby hiking trail he killed 3 women and an off duty cop.

Southern University, a HBCU, had themselves a mass shooting at a frat house during homecoming celebrations. 11 people were wounded. Two shooters were arrested, they were not of the white supremacy variety. Which is kind of strange, because everyone knows that mass shooters who are not white are killed by police… or something.

Three dead, including the shooter.

Too close for me, this high school is where my daughter played the role of Maria in West Side Story.

My kids attend a different school a few miles away. They spent most of the day in lockdown anyway. A few of my son’s friends were shadowing the other school on that same campus. They were physically unharmed.

The local Facebook/Twitter trolls were coming out with bs arguments about gun laws in Missouri within an hour or two of the news breaking.

Josh Hawley released a statement that amounted to “this is a thing that happened”.

I am sad, disgusted with partisanship that prevents us from even attempting to do anything about this, and doing my best to help my kids deal with this. This the second year in a row that my daughter has been affected by a school intruder, directly or indirectly.

Again, whoever is doing the killing, there are far too many of them in the USA. And you won't even try to address the main reason for this, the easy availability of firearms to all your population which will, of necessity, include white supremacists, people of colour, political factions, heck even people just having one bad day. I don't care what colour or what political viewpoint a shooter takes, I would just like efforts made to stop it before more innocents like school kids get killed by anyone of any background.
