Just caught the economist she is quoting/following in her policy. His view is that to boost the economy you need to put more money in people's pocket and they will spend it on goods and services if they are individuals and on research and innovation vif they are a company. I am not sure that works when inflation is high. A tax cut will not have people buying more rather inflation means a tax cut allows them to buy what they bought before. There will not be a boost.
However the main thrust of Patrick Minfords economic solution is free trade. That gives cheaper goods therefore more sales therefore growth. Truss's problem is brexit has not given free trade rather the opposite. It has put tariffs on our goods which prevents growth. Minford would abolish all tariffs everywhere. That is not within Truss's gift. Only removing our tariffs will give an economic boost but not to Britain.
.

Minford was *the* economist who was wheeled out before the Brexit referendum to balance the other economists who were saying that leaving a customs union with the UK's largest trading partner would make the UK poorer.

"This was a criminal offence. Now it’s an option for business."

One sentence that sums up the Tories.

I find it quite astonishing.

Prices are spiralling out of control, strikes are affecting nearly everyone, public services are stretched to breaking, the NHS is on its knees and yet it's still all Labour's fault despite not being in government for 12 years.

It's always the other party's fault...whether the other party deserves it or not.
Rule of politics 101.
Hate to say it, put all political parties usually blame it on the other party.

Truss claiming that conventional economic policies from all governments and their advisors haven't delivered growth in the last 20 years...

Is it just me or has she conveniently ignored certain events of 2008 (which my sums tell me was within the last 2 decades) which ****** over the entire global economy and the aftermath of which is still being felt and sorely limited the ability of absolutely any bugger to make growth happen?

Does PPE actually really include any economics? Or does the "E", as I recently claimed, stand for "eating""?

That is going to endear her to a lot of her fellow conservatives......
I wonder if she is trying to position herself as some kind of anti establisment leader, and thinks that attacking people in her own party will help with the image.

It's not a bad plan IMO.

The Tory faithful are unhappy about how "they" have effed up the economy, Brexit and so on. Blame "them" and promise to "deliver" and she'll get votes in droves.

Apart from the UK can't make a trade deal with a US State, here are the numbers

The total exports of North Carolina is
$33.4 billion and imports is $73.9 billion.

UK isn't even in the top 5 our current exports are £1.2bn

China $9.86B, Ireland $8.79B, Mexico $8.23B, Germany $7.53B, and Canada $4.44B.

That someone of the incapacity of Truss, an unprincipled opportunist & hypocrite of low intelligence, should be in the running for No 10, is a fitting legacy for Johnson's collapse of our country. Appalling. - A C Grayling

Mini Johnson in knickers? From anti-monarchist Lib-Dem to rabid ERG puppet Pork and Cheese person is a terrifying Damascene conversion. - Mike Harding

Postal strike coming apparently.

Royal Mail Group announced £758m profits, handed £400m to shareholders and pays two CEOs over £2m

But they expect postal workers to accept a pay cut.

MPs =/= membership.

Opinion polls are only a snapshot at a particular point in time. Plus people who respond are often self-selected (for example, have strong views or want to game it). Is there any indication that all these voters - AIUI now almost two-thirds in favour of Truss over Sunak - are paid up members of the Conservative party or just people responding to YouGov claiming to to vote Tory. Even the more specialist Opinium doesn't necessarily represent the 200,000 or so who have the right to vote.

Of course Conservatives are traditionally racist, sexist, homophobic, snobbish, etc., but when it comes to voting for a candidate in an inhouse election, criteria are more likely to be based on things such as the candidate's public profile, experience, qualifications, leadership skills, oratory skill, policies, factions, than superficial things like outward appearance.

In this case, it would be the racists versus the sexists. However, truth is, there are a hundred and one factors involved in why one candidate is more popular than another.

Sunak is popular because he has the backing of the hardcore, whereas Truss is likely picking up a lot of Mordaunt's votes. A lot of Tories are secretly remainers, like Truss. The problem with Sunak is that he is seen as treacherous, plotting behind Johnson's back. Javid had the Chancellor post before resigning on principle because Cummings insisted that he be answerable to the Prime Minister, when traditionally, the Exchequer is deemed to have independence. Having a Chancellor who is a nodding dog to a profligate and reckless PM, such as Johnson and his Eat Out to Help Out scheme was one such example of what happens when trying to be popular takes precedence over good housekeeping and watching the budget, and the country is plunged into a financial crisis. Sunak was happy to make this pledge of being under the PM and supporting Brexit to get his feet under the table. Maybe this is what people don't like about him.

The Border Force may have made the small boats crisis in the Channel worse, an independent report has found.

The report, commissioned by Home Secretary Priti Patel, described the overall approach as "ineffective and possibly counterproductive".
Author Alex Downer, former leader of Australia's Liberal Party, criticised "a cycle of crisis management".

It's the usual lack of leadership, poor communication and ineffective control.

Oh dear. All those soundbites. I'm surprised she is not 'shining a light' on the problem. OTOH in the middle of the Channel at night maybe that is too literal an image.

Rishi Sunak proves he does not understand the law and policing;

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politic...e-not-twitter-jokes-rishi-sunak-tells-police/

"Tackle street crime not Twitter jokes, Rishi Sunak tells police forces"

The reason why the police tackle twitter jokes is because politicians passed laws that meant under certain circumstances, twitter jokes are crimes. If politicians do not want the police to tackle twitter jokes, then politicians should not pass laws that can make twitter jokes illegal. Otherwise, should the police just decide what laws they will enforce and which they will not bother with?

Didn't that great statesman Rt Hon. A B Johnson in his valedictory speech say to ignore Twitter?

In summary then, to replace the ousted ****-show we have option 1: a ****-show, or option 2: another ****-show.

And the people that get to make that decision? The same ones that chose the outgoing ****-show in the first place.

This is fine.
