It seems their only ideas are to undo some of the things their own government has done.

I was shocked to find that Admiral Mordaunt had been smeared by fellow candidates.

I was even more shocked to find out the nature of that smear:

Conservative leadership hopeful Penny Mordaunt has called for an end to toxic politics, saying the focus needs to be on picking a new prime minister.

She told the BBC there were a "number of smears going on in the papers" and hit back at claims that she had ever backed gender self-identification.

Unless I have fundamentally misunderstood, the smear is that she expressed views consistent with being a decent human being.

The Sky debate has officially been cancelled after Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak pulled out to concentrate on other aspects of their campaign.

At the moment they are competing for votes from Tory MPs, and then Tory party members, who will probably have a rather different view of what is 'decent' than the general populace, hence the effort to be seen as fanatically pro-Brexit* and anti-woke (Liz Truss campaigned for Remain FFS but you wouldn't know it now).

Once they are competing in a general election, you'll probably find their views more fluid... then again, possibly not since the great British public seem disturbingly susceptible to Sun style campaigning.

*See Mordaunt's doubling down on her Turkey in the EU line, when actually we had a veto - her latest bizarre defence is 'we' wouldn't have used the veto. The (il)logic seems to be "We must leave the EU, they're about to let Turkey in" "Er but you can veto that"..."Er, yes but, if we didn't use our veto, they'd get in, so we must leave"..."Why not stay and use your veto?"..."We must leave, they're about to let Turkey in!"

Boris said “The Leader of the Opposition and the deep state will prevail in its plot to haul us back into alignment with the EU as a prelude to our alignment to our eventual return.”

I tuned into BBC earlier today, right at the beginning of Johnson's 'speech'. **** me, he was raging, delusional ... I switched off within seconds but I swear that man is clinically insane.

If you watch the coverage you will see Nadine Dorries is repeatedly shouting “you’re boring” at Keir Starmer.
She's a full-blown moron, a total debasement of her position.

I'm afraid it's what enough of the UK electorate want in a politician. They don't want to be governed effectively, they want to be entertained.

What's his first oh sorry "second" job going to be once he is no longer PM? Can't see him landing a GB News role - that would involve him turning up for broadcasts, stick to a schedule and so on. Back to the Telegraph? I know he'll be able to get top dollar (yep I meant dollar) for "speaking" engagements.

There is I know a bit of worry in the opposition parties that him no longer being PM will be bad for them - but I don't think it will be I think him pissing into the Conservative tent will cause more problems for the Tories than the opposition think it will. With him being so petty and so unconcerned about anything other than himself I think he will keep the Tories occupied with internal squabbling and back stabbing.

For a tory minister that is positively statesperson like - I mean at least she wasn't giving him the finger across the benches!

Just in case we had any doubt about how spiteful, petty and vindictive BlowJob and his cronies are: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...y-boris-johnson-confidence-vote-b2126318.html

Ellwood (not Jake), the Chair of the Commons Defence Committee, has the temerity to visit the Moldovan president while Moldova is under threat...How very dare he?

And then look at the sodding sycophants who crawled on their bellies to be there...

I was surprised to see the London Fire Brigade chief begging people to not start barbecues and to be careful with their behaviour. What on earth goes on in the COBRA meetings to address the wholly foreseen extreme weather? Here in Finland - not known as a hot country! - if there is a weather warning re danger of wild fires, it is actually illegal to set up a bonfire and despite all the vast open spaces you should only set up barbecues in officially designated areas (of course, you can do what you like on your own land). This happened at Midsummer this year (a national holiday and traditional to have a bonfire) which was a bummer, as usually midsummer weather is disappointing but this year it was glorious. So, all the government needs to do is bring in a law that stops people needlessly aggravating the situation of dry hot fields and woods catching fire by lighting barbecues, should it issue an 'extreme weather' warning which could aggravate the propensity of dried out shrubbery to catch fire and spread rapidly. It is rather too late when the LFB is already tackling ten major fires, and what lout is going to listen to some guy on telly, anyway.

So, people in Finland can use barbecues in their own gardens, just like in the UK?

If there is a forest fire weather warning in place then ALL open fire is prohibited. This system is based on air humidity levels and dryness of top soil up to six centimetres, together with a weather forecast calculated by air temperature and expected precipitation (rain) if any. The weather warnings usually run from May to September.

It includes ALL open fire. Open fire includes disposable barbecues. However, if you have a sheltered barbecue (brick work or stoneware which prevents any spread of fire) then that is not classed as 'open'. As everybody has the right to roam - apart from at someone's front porch - the law makes clear that you have to get the landowner's permission should you want a campfire or disposable barbecue, whilst on your roving. In public places, such as a beach, it is at designated areas only, even without the warning.

ISTM the UK had a COBRA meeting and it never crossed the 'experts'' minds to impose an emergency law restricting open fires and hazardous behaviour. A fire doesn't happen out of nowhere. It needs a spark from a cigarette butt or careless extinguishment of charcoal embers. Even a shard of glass magnifying heat from the sun.

By the time half the capital is on fire, it is a bit late to urge care and responsibility. It has to be enshrined in law so that police have the power to wade in and monitor things.

I find it quite astonishing.

Prices are spiralling out of control, strikes are affecting nearly everyone, public services are stretched to breaking, the NHS is on its knees and yet it's still all Labour's fault despite not being in government for 12 years.

Surely that's the clearest possible evidence of why there must never be another Labour government in the UK? Because of the long term damage they do when they get in. :p

Can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think the next prime minister may be Liz Truss
