Trans women are not women (Part 8)

Today's Trans news:

LGBT groups want the Equality and Human Rights Commission to lose its status as an independent body

LGBT charities want the UN to revoke the Equality and Human Rights Commission's (EHRC) status as an independent group.

It comes after the EHRC was criticised for calling for a pause to proposed reforms to the Gender Recognition Act in Scotland.

Hard to argue with this claim:

The 19-page submission accuses the EHRC of being "excessively" influenced by the UK government in the appointments of the chair and board members.

Leadership is appointed by the UK government, and the recent release of documents show that the group's new, vigorous anti-trans position is the result of a top-down initiative by leadership appointed by the Tory government.

If the group's positions are going to change based on who wins elections in the UK, it's clearly not independent. Arguably it never should have been considered such if it is structured this way.

And its previous position seems to be the result of bending to the lobbying of interest groups.

EHRC's role is to provide guidance based on the law as it is, not how lobby groups would like it to be.

I would describe it as "typical", but certainly not confined to one side of the political spectrum.

Yes, you've made it clear you want to "both sides" this issue. Find someone else to hawk this trash to, I'm not interested.

No, I don't imagine you are. However, if you ever become interested, take a look at your own posts and see how many of them are "outrage bait". I think you'll find that quite a lot of them fit into that category.

And, if you don't find that, rest assured that other people already have.

"It's almost as though all the horrible garbage people whom I'm so much better than are going out of their way to say and do things that piss me off! But that can't be the case; cause and effect isn't really a thing."

I would not consider my posts to be of journalistic quality to be published on major news sites. It would be a poor day for journalism if I ever get plucked to write about such issues.

These right wing tabloids are absolutely desperate for trans outrage stories, they're willing to cherry pick twitter comments from nobodies to create fake ones.

Anti-queer censorship bill on its way to becoming Florida law.

I get so tired of our news media reporting such slanted perspectives. While I think the proposed bill is overreach, the reporting on it is incredibly skewed.

Of particular note is that the bill is specific to primary schools. That's grades K through 5/6/7 depending on state. Most are through grade 5, with 6 & 7 falling into middle school.

Does anyone actually think it's appropriate to have discussions of sexuality with children who are prepubescent? I'm of the opinion that discussions of sexuality, sexual intercourse, etc. is inappropriate for that age group as part of the class curriculum.

I think it's fair to say the main goal is for self-ID to supercede "assignment at birth" for all purposes, public and private.

Assignment at birth is a diagnostic process performed by a medical professional.

Assignment occurs at *conception*, and sex is "assigned" by the chromosomes carried by the sperm that breaches the egg. Observation occurs at birth, by doctors who actually understand biology. ;)

You're right. Everyone knows children emerge from their cocoons in 9th grade, totally unfamiliar with the notion of romantic love, gender, homosexuality, and sexual topics.

Acknowledging the existence of queer people, even to children, isn't sensitive or obscene. Some people are gay, small minded bigots just need to get over it.

I agree with this, but it's one of those cases where the activists on both sides do not want a reasonable approach.

The law, as written, opens up anyone to lawsuits if they even discuss anything related to transgender issues or homosexuality. That suits the right wing just fine. Granted, those subjects should almost never come up in a primary school setting anyway, but if they do, people shouldn't be afraid of being hauled into court. If a teacher is actively pushing that sort of thing, their boss should be able to inform them to keep it to themselves.

Meanwhile, over on the left wing, they actually want to force discussions of those topics as part of an official curriculum, so obviously they hate the bill.

I think most people would be perfectly happy to have little or no discussions of sex, sexuality, and related issues with pre-pubescent kids in schools, but if a teacher happens to mention the existence of gay people, most parents wouldn't make a federal case out of it. Well, that's not good enough for anyone in politics. The left demands that you tell your six year old that Heather Has Two Mommies, and the right wants to sue you if you say it.

These seems like a whopper of a claim, I trust you have evidence of this.

I would assume that liberals want teachers and students to be able to discuss gender and sexuality issues in an age-appropriate way without having to worry about being sued by some insane right winger.

As much as these states might wish that society operated under some "dont ask, don't tell" policy, queer people exist, including queer primary school children. Pretending that this isn't true is a non-solution, and teachers need to be able to field questions about this without having to worry about being sued simply for acknowledging the existence of gay people.

I'm really failing to see how this is radical enough to meet your "both sides" description. Little Heather might have two mommies. Their male teacher might have a husband. Kids who haven't seen such things might wonder why that is. Shouldn't teachers be able to acknowledge that same-sex pairings are a thing?

The mind boggles that you could write such a thing as the highlighted. Even more so that you could start the rest of your post with that sentence.

I would explain more, but I'm late to taking my kid to Drag Queen Story Hour at the local library.

Ok....I made that up. My only child is 23 years old. He's not part of the target audience for Drag Queen Story Hour. And Drag Queen Story Hour doesn't meet on Friday afternoons anyway.

But.....I'm not making up Drag Queen Story Hour at the local library. That's a real thing.

However, for anyone who wants more information about how the left wing wants to push issues of transgenderism and homosexuality into the school curricula for all age levels, including primary school, just google "transgender curriculum". You'll find more than you have time to read.

What has being gay got to do with the "existence of queer people"?
