The Jan. 6 Investigation

They didn't just reject the appeal, they barely acknowledged it. All they got was one short opinion and the lone dissenter didn't even bother to write an opinion.

Let's hope a Trump ally hasn't had time enough to alter any critical documents!

I don't think that's much of a concern here. The documents have been in the hands of the National Archive since the end of Trump's administration. Trump's people wouldn't have had access to the documents.

1. The National Archives already have those documents

2. There are probably enough former aides and officials from the Trump administration who have "defected" to testify to any alterations that might have been made.

Trump's usual tactics of delay, re-litigate, appeal, delay, re-litigate, appeal has not worked this time. This has gone from a request for documents by the January 6 committee in mid-October, all the way through the layers of courts to a SCOTUS 8-1 decision against him in barely three months - that is Warp Factor Nine by US justice standards.

Trump is stuffed now! I would give almost anything to have been a fly on the wall when Trump was told. I can just imagine him in a screaming, raging fit of anger, ranting about how he appointed those judges so they owed him their loyalty, and now they have stabbed him in the back.

Oh, the schadenfreude is so sweet-tasting!!

Clarence Thomas.

And we don't know what he actually disagreed with.

The fact is that SCOTUS' ruling states the application would have been denied even if Trump was still president
"President Trump’s privilege claims “under any of the tests [he] advocated,” Trump v. Thompson, 20 F. 4th 10, 33 (CADC 2021), without regard to his status as a former President, id., at 40–46. Because the Court of Appeals concluded that President Trump’s claims would have failed even if he were the incumbent, his status as a former President necessarily made no difference to the court’s decision."

So far, no response from Trump or his lawyer. I like to think the silence is because he dropped dead from a heart attack or stroke.

Yeah... they have to ask the 3%ers, because the Oath Keepers are in jail
We need to get the Bundy's opinion on that, after all it was the Oath Keepers that have been unlawful rebelling against the federal, government for years now. No matter what Names you give these groups the motives are all the same.

The reason is the same: they're crazy.

There is also that if I'm going to rank judges on how likely they are to support Trump's side his appointments aren't at the top.

1) Thomas
2) Alito
3) Kavanaugh
4) Gorsuch
5) Barrett
6) Roberts
7-9) LDO

Which makes me think you are probably right. However, if the court passes I can see a raving dissent authored by one of the first two of those clowns and maybe also signed onto by Kavanaugh.

I'd think or at least hope that this would be 7-2, but Kavanaugh more than anyone else seems personally compromised.

I mean, I wasn't that far off. The world was robbed of what had to have been just an incredibly bizarre opinion when Thomas decided to just quietly vote. I'd almost pay to read that one.

I'm pretty sure this is the first time ever Alito exceeded my expectations. Which is sort of disorienting.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/20/poli...icials-rudy-giuliani-fake-electors/index.html

So Rudy Giuliani orchestrated the plot to submit fake slates of electors. I'd really like to know if any member or members of the enemy force that attacked the Capitol have the signed copies of the fake slates of electors with them in the building.

Oh gee whiz!

I hope if nothing else, that this fact will finally result in that stupid, idiotic, lying POS Giuliani being disbarred from the legal profession.

I posted this in the Trump's Coup thread a few minutes ago.

I don't see how, if true, this isn't seditious conspiracy.

There is a Reason Rudy was behind the fake Election certificates, Trump and Rudy probably expected to be indicted for Obstruction of Justice in the Mueller probe if Biden Took office, now with the DOJ tied up in the January 6th investigation Trump may actually get away with that crime as well.
Rudy was instrumental in keeping Corsi out of Jail for Lying to the Mueller investigation.
