Cont: Trump’s Coup - Part 2

You do understand that no one believes this happened, right?

He thinks he's being funny. Because making jokes about virtually non existent types of voter fraud whilst ignoring genuine attempts to destroy his country's democracy is apparently frigging hilarious.

Of course not. Donald Trump was willing to break the law to sway an election, and remains willing to this day.

On 6 January, thousands of Trump's supporters were willing to break the law to sway an election. More than 500 of them have been charged in DC federal court.

Which brings us back to the topic of this thread.

Many of the bogus voter fraud stories coming from the Trump cult seem to completely ignore the fact that mail in ballots each have a unique identifier, and that, among other things, this prevents ballots from being counted twice or more, and makes introduction of fake ballots difficult, if not impossible. In Colorado, which is all mail-in, each ballot has a bar code. So the stories about a big stack of ballots being run through the counting machine multiple times (which can actually be legitimately done if some of the ballots don't get read; the system will make sure none get double counted) or truckloads of fake ballots being delivered in the dead of night, don't actually even pass the laugh test.

Trump's people couldn't understand IBM paper punch cards or 1980s data crunching don't expect anything bright from them.

He is about as funny as a broken back.

And the news media is doing little to nothing to point these things out about registering to vote and systems like bar codes which prevent double voting let alone multiple votes in enough numbers to matter.

I wasn't worried too much about it, tbh. I got my votes in, and then some. My roommate works at the post office, and he culled some extra ballots. So, free 6-pack. Win-win.

Great process.
Bull ****** That's an outright lie and you know it. There are no "extra ballots" in the post office.
If you mean ones that are undeliverable because someone moved they go straight back to the county the voter is registered in.

This is where this **** comes from, someone like yourself makes up a lie, or passes it on because they heard it happened.
This did not happen.

It's hard to sufficiently own the libs without telling porkies.

When "owning" someone involves getting them to react to a fiction, even if said reaction is "hey, I don't believe you", it's getting pretty sad. Imagine living for that sort of "fix".

...but then, maybe it's a call for help.

In the UK every eligible voter is sent a polling card which tells them exactly where and when they should vote, so they can't be misled by deliberate misinformation if, for example, they are busy trying to hold down two jobs to feed their children and don't have time to check its accuracy.

I'm appalled by the disgraceful attacks on democracy I see happening in the US and I do not think sarcasm is an appropriate response to them.

We get voters pamphlets with similar information.

I registered online and they sent me a ballot. At that point, anyone can harvest it from the mail, or, as I joked, I can trade it to my neighbor for a 6-pack.

Once again, how many extra votes is that going to provide? And if your ballot didn't show up wouldn't you notify someone?

You are not paying attention, you are staying in that fantasyland of yours.

Why would the Media kill the cash Cow or the Goose that laid the golden Egg?

Ah...so now it was all 'a joke'. No. It was a lie and I was right to say I didn't believe you.
...
Another lie, we can presume? What you're doing is spreading misinformation about mail-in voting just like Trump and his allies. The fact is that there has been NO evidence of any substantial voter fraud with mail-in voting and no more than with in-person voting which isn't substantial either. In fact, most illegal voting isn't 'fraud' at all but simple mistakes or ignorance. Another fact: Oregon has done exclusive mail-in voting for decades with almost no fraud cases. Another fact: Utah has done mail-in voting for a decade with virtually no fraud cases.
But it's so edgy and it triggers the libs.

I think the problem here is that there is no defense for Trumpism, or Republicans at all right now. Because of this, all we get are absurd lies, what-ifs, and shifting the burden of proof.

It makes it hard to tell the trolls from the simple minded honest debaters because they are pulling from the same pool of information.

But when a poster double downs on a lie ("my neighbor stole the ballots from the post office"), I know that I am wasting my time.

If you ask someone here for evidence and they continually provide zero, it doesn't help to try the "prove a negative" route. Your walls of well researched facts will be brushed aside.

Beyond all of the back-and-forth of what is or isn't "secure" there's also the fact that one can file a civil petition to challenge election results or seek greater transparency in the processes.

As demonstrated repeatedly this last cycle, however, without evidence it won't go past the initial hearing.

I never said that, lol.

I was pointing out a flawed process. Which is completely accurate, for my state, and perhaps others. Do I think that the election was "stolen"? No. As I pointed out, election fraud is an equal-opportunity endeavor.

The characterization of a "lie", when it is blindingly obvious sarcasm, is hilarious. "Traded my ballot for a 6-pack". I mean, if you interpret that literally, one just has to laugh. :D

No, you said it was your roommate not your neighbor:

It's still a bald-faced lie.

No one cared about that except to point out to you that one vote at a time is not going to result in massive voter fraud.

Please address the problem you have claiming massive voter fraud that voter registration doesn't sort out.
And you never said which state doesn't rely on matching signatures.

Well, there’s your problem.

The age of sarcasm is behind us. There is no such thing as blindingly obvious sarcasm because so many people spent the past 10 years firmly believing blindingly obvious sarcasm.

President Trump was most assuredly at the forefront of the death of sarcasm. In 2013, Bill Maher offered to donate $5 million to charity if Trump could prove that he was not half-orangutan. Trump produced his birth certificate and tried to collect the money through a lawsuit. Trump eventually withdrew the lawsuit.

Right. And that's why you pointed that out immediately when I said I didn't believe you. Oh, wait....you didn't. Instead, you said this:

"tbh"? LOL! You were making it all up and you got caught and now you're just piling it on as if we're going to believe you. See? This is the problem when you get caught in a lie: nobody believes anything else you say. Well, except for Trump cultists who think he doesn't lie. :boggled:

I had my Oregon mail-in ballot not counted initially in an election but I was notified of a 'signature mismatch'. I was given the opportunity to verify that I had, indeed, signed the ballot and it was then counted. Easy peasy.

It's interesting to note that Warp12 refuses to identify which state he lives in that offers 'no recourse' of correcting a 'failed' signature.
