What is the NRA up to these days?

The real sadists often gravitate to feral hog hunting. They are an invasive species in the US and often there are very few, if any, restrictions that usually come with hunting managed game as mass slaughter is the intended goal. There's quite the community of bloodthirsty freaks getting their kicks mowing down these animals in the most gratuitous ways imaginable.

Ted Nugent famously claims he killed nearly 500 animals using a door mounted machine gun off the side of a helicopter in Texas in a single outing.

Not to say that culling these animals isn't the right thing to do, but people who enjoy the mass slaughter are deeply diseased.

Agreed. But not just the mass slaughter. It's finding enjoyment in killing anything, even one animal, that is sick.

When I was dating, if I found out the guy enjoyed hunting, that was the last date we had.

Depends on why. I know people in North Dakota that aren't keen on killing animals, but as mentioned before, it's either kill the invasive species or watch your beloved land get ruined.

I have a lot of respect for people who do what needs to be done. It's tough, I could never do it. Dead things are eww

Read my post more carefully. I said "It's finding enjoyment in killing anything, even one animal, that is sick."

The scenario you described does not mean they enjoy the killing, but are doing it out of necessity to save their land.

We have property that is overrun with deer. We need to cull them, but nobody really wants to do it. Killing a bunch of deer sucks. It sucks worse if the meat will be wasted. So, I promised to get license this year and take my limit off the property.

I used to hunt because it was difficult to find good game meats and I enjoyed the variety. Now I’ll be hunting because it is the right thing to do for the herd and the land. But the meat won’t go to waste.

Right, I wasn't correcting you or anything. I was more just giving my opinion, I should have probably explained that better. I agree with what you're saying, and I feel the way I posted.

Yeah, basically what this says.

Outside of I don't like deer meat. Too lean, makes decent jerky I guess, but I'd never be able to eat enough for it to be worth it.

Culling a herd of the sick and old needs to be done. If the population gets too large, the whole herd will suffer due to food becoming scarce and the threat of starvation. The meat you don't eat can also be donated to food shelters.

I particularly find bow hunting sick. At least you can get a clean shot with a rifle that kills the animal immediately or quickly. Bows make the animal suffer more often.
Studies indicate that for every deer killed
by bowhunters at least one or more is hit and not recovered, compared to deer shot by gun where only one out of 14 shots is not recovered. The average bowhunting wounding rate is 54%; the average shots per kill are 14. According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) 14,744 deer were killed in 2002 by bowhunters.
Of these deer, 2,528 were fawns. All these animals endured prolonged suffering before they collapsed and died.

Sick, sick, sick.

Deer are one species that is in no danger of becoming endangered. People don't get how fast they can reproduce. Yeah, they look cute but they are horny little bastards.

Hey!
The Prince of the Forest LOVED Bambi's mother!!

I don't like hunting for sport. And, I have known some people who just love killing things.

That being said, I can't help but laugh at people who overtly lament such "murder", while throwing out half of that Whopper sandwich they had at lunch.

The point was about people who ENJOY the KILLING part of hunting, not about eating meat.

When someone eats that half of a Whopper, I'm pretty sure they might be getting "enjoyment", indirectly, from that killing.

But, hey, as long as it is just "fast food" and industrialized murder for profit...no harm, no foul. Right?

Humorous. :D

Your self righteous attempts at shoe-horning faux verisimilitude (comparing apples to oranges seem to be the current popular strategy) aside, ever considered the possibility that the people who throw away the half whopper might also be the kind who might get enjoyment from killing in more direct ways, as you put it?

Which is sick.

But, people also order a Whopper just for that "flame broiled" flavor.

sometimes they don't finish them and throw half of it away

which i think raises an interesting question. is a guy who laments exploding prairie dogs as sick who throws away half a whopper someone who you would laugh at?
